Default Bravo Dashboard - Free MV Package (for real) - 01-02-2008 , 06:06 PM

Bravo Dashboard is now ready for download at:

http://www.sierra-bravo.com/legacy/p...ravo-dashboard

This is free software that allows Pick programmers to create web-based
dashboard pages quickly and easily.

The download includes installation and programming guides as well as
the fully-functioning package.

It can be installed in just minutes as long as you know a little bit
about Unix and Pick. Once installed, point your web browser to your
Universe, Unidata or D3 server and watch it work. The package includes
sample widgets with all source code.

Consultants: This is a great opportunity for you to provide new
services to your customers with a 15-minute learning curve.

Have fun!

Please take the following as constructive criticism.

I quit watching the screen-cast (http://www.sierra-bravo.com/
bravodashboard) about 2.5 minutes in when I realized it was going to
be over 30 minutes long.

1) Make it about 10x shorter

2) More images, less talking

3) Hire a professional speaker, or at least have a script to cut down
on all the "ums" and "ahs".

4) Try a better screen casting product. The image was undersized and
not clear enough.

As for the product itself. I hope to find some time to try it.
Thanks for the contribution.

Regards,

Kevin's points are well taken.
Sorry to say but I gave up the screen-cast sooner than he did.
Would be nice to see sample pages created with your product.

Regarding the statement:
"Consultants: This is a great opportunity for you to provide new
services to your customers with a 15-minute learning curve."
You cannot have a 15 minute learning curve when the presentation alone
takes 34 minutes unless you give-up after 15 ;-)

Guys - I appreciate our criticism. If this were a product that I were
selling, I may spend a little more energy on producing higher quality
marketing materials. This was a webex demo that I did, and I recorded
it so those who did not attend could see it. But I will certainly keep
these suggestions in mind for future commercial products.

Perhaps a "15-minute learning curve" is a bit aggressive. Save
yourself some time, though - skip the screen cast and just download
and install the tool. The demonstration doesn't tell you anything you
won't figure out just by using it a bit.

In any case- I don't apologize for the shortcomings in the screen cast
or marketing materials.

Hey Luke,

I'll be checking out your toy tomorrow. It looks fun so far. I
concur with your comments in the webex recording, regarding the free
versus paid tools. I think the managers at All-Spec will enjoy seeing
dashboard stats and other info on a web page instead of a spreadsheet
and/or 10 different system screens. Thanks for the tool!

Glen

You know.. it's that exact mentality (criticism posts) that prevents
good free products from gaining any momentum. You guys ought to know
better! It's free software so get over the unpolished marketing. I
watched the entire webcast just because of the comments here. Hell, at
least there was a webcast that demonstrated it. How many paid tools
have you seen that don't even have decent PDF documentation!
<grumbles>
