I have a client who is using a 6-user version of AP/Pro on a PC. Whenever the
system is shutdown, it seems to forget the serial-card assignments. We reboot
the machine with Pick System Disk #1 and choose the C option to reset the
options to recognise the MONOLITH 8-port card, all works OK ... and then
someone switches it off again.
Can anyone tell me why it should keep forgetting the serial cards? |
I can't give you an answer from direct knowledge of the situation. I've
seen Monoliths in use before (long time ago in a galaxy far, far away)
and don't recall ever encountering the problem.
First question - has it always been so?
Second question - is the machine maintaining its BIOS and clock settings
whilst the power is off?
Third question - is the Monolith card sharing an IRQ with a conventional
serial port? (If so, you might improve matters by disabling the serial
port sharing the IRQ, if possible. Under those circumstances, being an
older PC - reading between the lines - it may not be capable of
distinguishing the presence of the Monolith card from the conventional
port.)
