Default AP floppy disk problem - 12-31-2010 , 02:36 AM

I have a set of 1.44MB Advanced PICK/SCO version 6.1.4 floppy
diskettes. I want to reinstall our system on SCO 6 in a new server
without floppy drive. Can I convert the floppy disk to other media
such as CD ROM or store as files in SCO 6 so that I can install it on
the new server. Anybody over there can give me some advice. Thanks.

Won't work if the first disk is copy protected.
If not, see the sco man page for the marry command
that lets you assign a block device to a big disk file.
{At least that's how sco used to do this; maybe they've since gone
to the linux method of using an losetup command and /dev/loop*
device names -- we haven't ever used sco version 6}

Suck up the tracks of the floppies on another computer and transmit
the resulting file to the sco box. Hijack the /dev/ entries for floppy
drive to instead point to your married block device.

Why not use a USB floppy?

I'd be inclined to first ask "what hardware are you trying to
install on?" I have a similar version of AP/SCO laying around and
after a "just for giggles" attempt to get it running I gave up on it
due to a lack of hardware drivers.
