Did anyone attend & want to comment? I'm curious about the lack of
dialog ...

I was there as a speaker. I went this year thinking it would likely
be my last year being involved with Spectrum as the last few years in
Denver the attendance and attitude had declined somewhat. Imagine my
surprise to find an energized and eager group of folks who genuinely
seemed interested and involved in what I - and the other speakers -
had to say. I hear attendance was up, which I cannot confirm beyond
the observation that all my sessions seemed to have more folks than in
prior years, and considering that Nathan had scheduled me later in the
week (compared to earlier in the week as in past years) I was very
surprised to have as many people show up.

So at this point I'm looking forward to next year and hope that I am
again offered the opportunity to be involved.

I was able to go this year. I agree with Kevin. There were more
people there this year than last year, and the overall mood was
positive. I think having it on the east coast brought in some people
that wouldn't have gone. There were also a few younger people there
this year, which was a lilttle encouraging. On the downside, there
were fewer vendors there, and the only database vendors that were
there were Ladybridge, Revalation and Intersystems. From what I hear
from talking to people, Tigerlogic, Rocket Software and Northgate
aren't going anymore is because they are generating many (or any)
sales leads. I don't know if that is truly the case, but it was kind
of discouraging that they weren't there. I guess they don't have any
sense of community.

They are businesses motivated by profit, not community. If one
translated to the other, great, but the numbers don't seem to relate
cause and effect there.

Now that the conference is over I'm curious how close my
pre-conference blog notes reflected what actually came to pass.

BTW Tracy, I specifically wrote that blog in response to your question
in this forum, and I quoted you in the blog, and spelled out a
business case that has nothing to do with "community". Your feedback
on one answer to your original question would be most welcome, now
that you've been to the show.

Regards,
T

I understand that. I guess that I just would like to see these
companies realize that that when end users are attending the show,
that there are more reasons to come other than short term profits.
And to be fair (I should have put this in my original post), even
though TigerLogic wasn't there, Janet Cioffi (I probably mispelled her
name, sorry if I did) was there for a day. I had the opportunity to
speak to her for a few minutes.

I did read your blog when originally posted it, but I will have to
review it again before I can give any feedback.
