And we can barely afford to eat them these days, let alone (erm) "tup" them.

I wonder if that word might have a Yiddish influence. It could derive
from "shtup".

Oh, and it's of British origin, but the Kiwis apparently apply the same
word to the more conventional sex act as well.

Luke
I could stand corrected on this......

The word "tup" is, AFAIK, a northern England/Border/Scottish
colloquism to "head butt", and it's use got itself transferred to a
ram as a "tupper" because of a ram's propensity to charge and head
butt any adversary

Usage then passed to what a tupper does best ... "tupping"....either
end....and being "tupped"

All this, according to my Scottish grandfather in the mid-fifties who
"selected" his 46,000 acre corner of OZ up near Cloncurry in 1909...
While "tupper" referred to a ram, I can't now recall his colloquism
for a wether... but it was a bit clever, too... made me poor ol' mum
speak rather harsly to her father when he mentioned it....

Hi Brian
The news about 4mill came out this week,Helen probably had it on her secret
womens' business list.. Personally I live in the centre of the
Universe -TASMANIA.
Now I know why the North Island of Australia (starts at Melbourne ends at
Darwin) has been importing all those Kiwi shearers - they were out of work
and must have been cheaper.

I still miss the export quality from the freezing works in CHCH

AHAH! That is why I can't get a decent piece of hoggett in Australia.
All the rams have gone on the pension whilst the upright population has
gone on a tupping spree.

Are you talking about Australia there or NZ? It probably applies to both
countries. Of course, both our countries have imported many more people
over recent years too (and I'm not talking about the Kiwis living in the
West Island <g>).

I see that you hit 4 million this week.

Actually, we passed 4m a couple of years ago.

As for Pick in its Pr1me, both Dick and Lionel have passed on yet the
phoenix rises with OpenQm

Cheers,

Brian
