[Announcement] Cache - general download for MV users -
09-25-2006
, 02:25 PM
Just a note to inform you that the version of Cache that contains the
MV enhancements is now available for general download from:
http://www.intersystems.com/mv
This is still a developer/beta/trial version, and as such we expect to
update the download on a schedule of between 2 and 4 weeks as bugs are
discovered and enhancements implemented. So, don't expect a perfect
release, but do expect us to respond quickly and fix any bugs that you
may encounter while trying to port your application.
This release will shortly become part of the main Cache product release
(I.E. No distinction between Cache as it has been and Cache that
incorporates MV - it is a standard part of the main product).
We provide full, free support (email or telephone at your option)
during your trial process and we are very interested in your feedback,
so that we can produce the best product possible. Apart from the
quality and performance inherent in Cache (even though we are still
working on this, I believe you will find performance to be good even
now), we are emphasizing the following:
1) Cache is a much better known database than the MV ones, but now has
all the same MV features (and more) that the other MV databases have.
2) Cache is actively marketed in the mainstream and your customers are
much more likely to have heard of the product;
For instance, I noticed that a mention was made of the embedded
database market held by the U2 products: Did you know that according to
the same information source, Cache holds twice the market share of the
U2 products combined? Check out

For details on recent contract wins, including a USD14.7M contract to
supply the U.S. Dept. of Defense.
Please feel free to try the product, perhaps attempt a port (we will
provide you with free assistance to do this [including countries other
than the U.S.]) or perhaps play with features newly available to MV
such as programming in MVBASIC with objects, SQL and so on.
