Default [Announcement about Cache] - Calling all Aussies - 06-09-2006 , 03:33 AM

[This is an announcement about a symposim in Australia - no need to
read it if you are not based in Australia or are not interested in
Cache MV (though you should be ]

Dear Aussie mates,

It came to my attention that you blokes won't get a lot of
entertainment out of the impending World Cup competition unless the
Poms go out early after being humiliated (note to US - Invite other
countries to competitions with 'World' in them ;-) .)

Instead, why not spend the time hearing about the MultiValue offerings
within Cache. We have a user symposium 21 - 22 June in Sydney and I
would be pleased to see you there. If you don't have the time to spend
two days on something like this, then no worries - all you need to do
is come to MV presentation which is over lunch and won't take up too
much time.

If nothing else, when it is question time, you can ask me why we
(England) never win at Cricket and Australia wins all the golds in the
commonwealth games. Watch me squirm trying to rememeber the last time
we won anything at all against Australia.

To be serious for a paragraph, it is well worth a lunchtime to see what
we have: usual MV stuff you would expect of course, Object/Class
development in MVBASIC, SQL Engine with ODBC, .Net, JDBC, EJB, Java
projections, SQL gateways, and more.

If you are interested in coming along, either take a look at
www.intersystems.com/au, call 02 8243 0300 or email anz.query at
intersystems dt com.

Simon - the symposium is in Sydney so they will be more interested in
rugby league rather than union, and they have been thrashing us at that
for 20 years now

Gentlemen
The only real football is of course AFL where the pitch is big enough and
people actually score. In fact I have seen some AFL scores higher than the
English cricket test scores. Do not be confused by Sydneysiders Jim they
have a junior team called the Swans really South Melbourne transplanted.
THE TEAM is COLLINGWOOD all others are there to help us practice.

Peter McMurray
And displayed there, unfortunately, is the prime reason Australia
should immediately cease importing migrants, especially To-and-Froms,
errrr, Poms.

A drongo import showing us just how unmitigatedly foolish he is by
actively promoting, world-wide, a team (in a competition comprising
only 16 teams) that hasn't won a premiership since 1990....... And
the one before that was ..... 1958..... Before that? 1953.. Before
that? None in the 1940's, 3 times in the 1930's, thrice in the
1920's, thrice in the 1910's and twice in the 1900's. The years
from the 1900s to the 1930s might have been something to crow about.
But since then? Three premierships in nearly 70 years. Bloody
PATHETIC!

And their current-day supporters, even those in the minority with a
tenuous grip on the English language (most Collingwood supporters
communicate by pointing, spitting and grunting) mirror the team they
idolize. Absolutely bloody PATHETIC!

"All others are there to help us practice"... "Us"? " US"?? Just
when was it that *you* pulled on the boots for *your* side, Peter?

And if Collingwood's games are only "practice", then the team's record
shows that, obviously, Collingwood aren't getting enough of it....
There was a rock band in Australia back in the '70s known as "The
Easybeats". Any truth in the rumour they were sponsored by the
Collingwood Football Club, Peter?

BTW, "AFL" always brings a smile. Back a few years, errr, decades,
the premier Australian Rules competition was then the "Victorian
Football League" ("VFL") - "Australian Rules" being invented and
developed in Victoria in the mid-to-late 1800's and spreading to the
other southern Australain states over the years.

("Australian Rules"? Known more properly as "aerial ping pong" or
"kick and giggle".)

Anyway, back to "AFL". In the early 1970's a couple of Melbourne
journalists, chief among them one Keith Dunstan, formed what they
called the "AFL" , the "Anti Football League", the insignia being a
square, pink football. Quite a few inspired and intelligent
Australians paid their dues (donated to charity) to join.... Then the
VFL expanded into now what they called the "Australian Football
League" ("AFL") by letting some interstate sides into the
competition, and by "transferring" teams with acute debt from Victoria
(Melbourne, actually) to other states, ergo, the South Melbourne side
to Sydney as the "Sydney Swans" - the current premiership holders,
Peter, and Fitzroy to Queensland as the "Brisbane Lions" - only after
an earlier transplant, the "Brisbane Bears" failed dismally at Carrara
on Queensland's Gold Coast.

Most Australians have more respect for the "old" AFL.

An interesting fact is that with the introduction of interstate sides
into the AFL, not too many Victorian clubs (witness Collingowood) have
been able to gain a premiership, leading a lot of Victorians to call
for the dismantling of the current "AFL" back into the VFL - only
Victorian sides... Go figure.

Actually they could dismantle the whole AFL shebang without too much
of a whimper from the rest of the world.... A newspaper or two might
go broke, along with a television channel or two, none of which would
really be missed.....

Peter, "Australian Rules" is the game. The "AFL" is only the

states' games and teams are administered by their own state "Leagues",
viz, SANFL for South Australia....

And, a "pitch" is the often (when it rains) muddy bit in the middle of

ovals in summer....

Hi Again
What was that rule?
Light blue touch paper and stand back fifteen paces.
Ah! misguided passion. Of course NSW has to import everything to get
anywhere. Teams, workers, crikey they even pinched Victoria's water.
