Default [AD] Multi-Value Phantom Job Processor - 03-03-2011 , 05:55 PM

Background processing is a proven technique which can help to improve
the efficiency of your computer operations. My software product, the
Multi-Value Phantom Job Processor (MVPJP) runs within your MVDB
environment, executing jobs automatically and reliably, according to
schedules maintained by non-technical operations personnel on a set of
user-friendly screens.

I understand that most folks here are technicians and that my optimal
target audience is operations managers. However, I would much
appreciate it if you could have a look at my website: http://mvpjp.com
and let your operations people know about it.

Thanks for your time,
Marc Kahn

Wow! Annual pricing starts at 3 grand a server? Must be a hell of a product.

You should probably add the appropriate <meta> tag(s) to your web pages
so they render as expected in most browsers.

Based on my (perhaps simplistic) assumption that if it worked in the
Cubs market, I could sell it in the much larger MVDB market, I've
stepped out on a limb. *I've pulled money from my retirement account
and approached this as a serious venture. *I've arranged to be an
exhibitor at the International Spectrum show next month and paid for a
full page ad in their magazine. *I'm having brochures printed right
now and when they arrive, I'll be launching a direct mail campaign.
I've spent quite a bit of time putting this all together and turned
down paying work in order to make the time.

This is all new for me. *For the past 29 years, I've been very
successful as a tech, almost exclusively in the Pick / MVDB world.
When I first started, I had the constant existential edge - "Gee, I
wonder if I can pull this off...". *Over the years, I've lost that
edge and been in a very comfortable rut. *Now, for the first time in a
long time, I'm wondering, "Gee, I wonder if I can pull this off." *In
a way, that's a lot of fun. *In another way, it's nuts - I've got some
of my retirement savings at risk here!

Marc/Marco it's all about the marketing my friend.
You can have the most fabulous software and only sell it to 20
companies because you're not so good at the sales aspect. Or you can
be the next marvel who gets his product into 500 Pick companies.

The price in my mind, isn't as important, as your ability to convince
your prospects that you have, what they need or want.

A story that Peter will appreciate, but somewhat relevant .....

Many moons ago, when Pick was still "new", we set about filling what
we saw as "gaps" in the product with a number of utilities. One of
these was a product called SuperB, which provided a B+ tree handler.
We had been doing OK with the product in the general Pick marketplace,
and had PR1ME evaluate it with Information as they had a numbgr of
large sites & big government departments (ad that legacy still lives
on to the advantage of U2!!)

The result was that they presented us with a report which highlighted
that SuperB could improve some performace times 1,000 fold (ie:
100,000%)

We sat back and waited for the sales from PR1ME information sites to
roll in.

We waited, and waited, and .... eventually I called the Prime sales
manager & asked what the problem was .... his salesmen had seen the
product in operation, seen the report .... the rest should be easy.

The answer still resonates with me today ...

"Ross," he said "you have to understand that our customers are
comparing your $500 product with products that cost $50-100K .... they
just justify it. Have you thought of raising the price so that people
will give it credibility?"

"Relunctantly" we increaed the price on Prime Information to $5K ....
and suddenly it started to sell!!

So, Tony, stand by for those orders to come rushing in .... and Marco,
looks like you now have a competitor, so you have something that you
can be "better than" to justify your higher price!

Good luck to you both

this person appears to have the idea that what he has is substantial

he thinks that what he's seen in MVdb IS MVdb -- and he charges what
he has seen people charge years ago

it may have been useful YEARS ago within a certain environment -- but
why even then?

such is the dearth of pick programmers

I could produce the whole lot -- what he's descriped in 1/2 an hour

that's why its not worth 3k

its a strange strange world

you idiots
