Sorry for the delay in responding.

It works pretty much like some of the solutions described in other replies.
i.e. it acts as a printer, scooping up the data and then processing it.

It was designed to work on Universe but there's no reason why it couldn't be
adapted for D3.

On the price front we'd have to see what was involved with the D3 adaptation
so please drop me a line via the website if interested.

Regards.

Philip

Looks interesting. How does it capture the report? Will it work on
D3/Linux? How much does it cost? Does anyone else out there have a similar
product?

ReportMailer captures the output that would normally go to a printer and
processes it to pdf and/or txt formats before emailing or storing it.

It is very flexible and different reports can reach different recipients
or groups by using trigger text contained in each report.

No reports need to be modified and there is no impact on your application
as all the work is done after the report has been produced.

Once the data is in pdf/txt format it is easy to search for any piece of
information and also to distribute it to other interested parties.

Navigate to www.progenix.co.uk and take a closer look under 'Software
Services'. Please use the 'Contact' page to ask any questions and we'll
be pleased to respond to you.

Regards to all.

Philip Ellis

Do any Linux-based MV systems these days support SP-PRINTTO?

I'm not familiar with SP-PRINTTO, but it sounds similar to the assignfq
command in D3.

SP-PRINTTO directed output to a file rather than a print queue. Doesn't
ASSIGNFQ just direct output to a form queue? I'm not all that familiar
with D3.

Not at all. It sounds like ASSIGNFQ is a direct replacement for
SP-PRINTTO. Snips from the D3 Reference manual: "On Unix-based
implementations, the spooler has the ability to transfer data directly
from the D3 process to a Unix-based operation such as a spooler, file,
communications link, hardware device, etc. The relationship between D3
and the Unix process is established by the "assignfq" command. Simply
place the Unix command string in parentheses immediately after the
"device.name" field. Assignfq recognizes the parentheses to mean a Unix
process and sets up the proper linkages."

Sounds almost too good to be true. Thanks for the update, Art.
