Default Active Fax Setup - 04-19-2006 , 09:49 PM

I've loaded ActiveFax on an XP Pro box and have been using it from
Windows successfully. I would like to setup a printer on D3/AIX to
direct output to ActiveFax. I added the remote printer as noted in the
instructions and started a shared printer under D3. When I look at the
queue status under AIX I see the following:
fax @F1 READY
fax: ActiveFax Server: There are 72 entries in the Faxlist
fax: 60 Outgoing (0 Undelivered, 41 Sent, 0 No Recipient, 19
Undeliverable)
fax: 12 Incoming (0 Unread, 12 Read)

When I print from D3 using the following code I see the entry # on D3.

003 EXECUTE "SP-ASSIGN F140"
004 TEXT = "@F201 Diesel Exchange Inc.@@F211 417-831-1649,,,12@@F307
THIS IS A T

EST FAX@"
005 PRINTER ON
006 PRINT TEXT
007 PRINTER CLOSE

When I check AIX the print job has apparently already cleared but
nothing shows at the ActiveFax. Can anyone out there point me in the
right direction?

Your problem is in the printer set up. If you send any print job to Active
Fax, even without the command strings, you should see it in the Active Fax
log. The fact that it does not display in the log indicates that the print
job is not getting there.

When I set up an Active Fax lpd printer, I always use a static ip address,
use queue name actfax, and set it to raw text only. That has always worked.

I didn't study your @F commands closely, but I doubt that is the problem.

Just as I thought. I get an ActiveFax error message "no contents"
if I try to send your example back to you as an email... You
apparently need a message.

1. You seem not to have any document. You only have "heading" bits
for the ActiveFax printer. I'm not too sure anything will get
sent....There's only an empty vessel.... You've got nothing to send,
so it's sending nothing....

F307 is only the "subject" Try adding more text (not in any @F..@
controls) as the message....

2. We always include a @F5010@ to eliminate dialog twixt ActiveFax
and the operator... AFAIK this dialog appears at the ActiveFax server,
not the operator's terminal... so is totally useless....unless the
operator is "at" the ActiveFax server

Yep! It does... Did the short message fall out at your end?

I copied myself and an email duly arrived....

So, you MUST include a message...

I am using a static IP. I did go back and recreate the queue under AIX
using the local filtered option and setting my queue as ASCII. Bruce
indicated that I needed text more than just a subject and that proved
to be true. I was successful in sending a fax although it broke my very
short text onto a second page. I appreciate the response. I'm still not
real certain that I have my print queue setup properly but was
successful in sending the fax. Thanks Jeffery and Bruce for you
response. - rc

Thanks Bruce. I have successfully sent a fax. I'll need to do some
more experimenting to get it prefected but this is a good start. - rc
