Looking at IT portas like it.seek.com.au, I can find many positions for unidata/universe programmers, but zero d3 jobs. Is there a bigger presence of U2 over d3 ? Regards, Cristian |

U2 both have their history in the Prime Information side of the MV industry. --dawn |

U2 both have their history in the Prime Information side of the MV industry. --dawn PR1ME Information had a major impact in Australia in the mid-80's, thanks to Lionel Singer who spent big bucks on (dare I say) prime time advertising (also has a lot to answer for - that was how I was first introduced to "pick") "Information" had a high profile in Government at all levels (DoD, Maritime Services Board, Liquor Licencing Board - I believe the Australian Tax Office is still a big Unidata user, with all electronic lodgments handled by UD) and big business. Lionel tried to emulate this success with "Wicat" when PR1ME took over distribution, but eventually failed, in part because of the Pyramid/Universe combo sold as an Information replacement "at the top" The other major "player" that shaped the Australian market was AWA (Amalgamated Wireless Australasia), originally with Microdata, and later GA (with far less success) Pick Systems entered the market at the bottom end of town, and the evolution of R83/AP/D3 is well known. Whilst it was relatively common for "user" organizations of Information (and later U2) to have their own onsite IT, D3 (as it is today) tended to be deployed as an embedded component of a total solution, and internal IT involvement [and thus jobs] were the rarity rather than the rule. In this respect, the lack of D3 jobs doesn't necessarily reflect the size of the market, but rather the type of user. |
