Default What is my data model - 10-23-2007 , 09:30 PM

This should be an easy one. If I right click on a field on a form
(already designed), then click on 'Define Field', I get the 'Define
Field' dialog box. Now, I want to know which data model file this
field is associated with. How do I do this? If I click on the data
model button, it gives me the opportunity to select a data model file
(from the right frame), but I don't see where it tells me what data
model file it is currently associated with. Is this information
available?

A related question. As I look at the data model for the field, it
shows me tables, and links between them. Is it a given that the files
for those table are in the same directory as the form? If not, how do
I determine their full path?

Thanks

Your form isn't associated with a data model file. It has a data model
embedded in it if it has tables associated with it. Depending on the
version of pdox there are different ways to see the dm. in later
versions when the form is in edit select the menu item Format and then
data model.

Generally you don't want the tables in the same directory as the form.
That is what aliases are for: managing your files and your ap. Check out
my database basics paper on our paradox resources page (link in my

As Dennis replied, each form and report has it's data model embedded in
the form or report. That data model can be saved to an external file so
that it can be used as the basis for the data model in another form or
report (or even QBE query), but the data model file is separate from a
form's or report's data model.

If you select a table in the data model while viewing a data model, the
complete path to the table is displayed in the Paradox status bar.
