:-) That's what I was thinking.

But it looks as if I'm going to have to install Vista sooner rather than
later (for all sorts of non-Paradox reasons). It may be we'll all have
to buy X3 when Corel end up releasing their compatibility fix.

My comment to a customer who wanted to know whether to upgrade to Vista
was "how much money do you have?" No more problems for another year or 2.

I didn't mean to lie to them. If you tell them it is another version of
Paradox that works better with Vista, it is not a lie. If they ask if
it is an older version, then tell them it is an older version and the
newer version has no real advantage over the older one which is the truth.
I think "upgrading" to an older version would be such an unusual thing to
do, so doing it without explaining exactly why and how wouldn't be right,
even if the customer doesn't really ask any specific question.

You are of course right about the facts but if *I* was the customer I would
be very suspicious if someone told me I had to use an older version to run
my app on a never OS! Hopefully the customer is pragmatic and think "what
ever get's the job done" but more likely he will think "That's what to be
expected when using this obscure software called Paradox, better switch to
Microsoft before it's too late.", right or wrong, but quite understandable.

Being serious.

I've installed Visual Studio 2005 and Expressions Web. I've also signed
up for lengthy (re) education. I'm spending (not enough) time on Joomla.
I've put aside 12 month's salary in the anticipation of rewriting my
Paradox application(s) and not earning. (Now *that* should be a nice
little tax deduction) ;-)

So when I say to my customers "don't upgrade to Vista now", I can
sort-of say, "wait 12 - 18 months for the next version of my software".
Unfortunately, it won't be written in Paradox.

My concerns regarding Vista don't relate to Paradox. I suspect MS is
being very, very insidious with Vista. Once you have it installed, you
may unknowingly give up any rights to control over your computer, your
software and your hardware you may think you had.

I wonder if part of the problem is changing C compilers from Borland to
Microsoft?

I was able to load and run Paradox 7 on VISTA ULTIMATE after having trouble
and not being able to install PANDA INTERNET SECURITY

It seems we may be quick to blame the software but I believe the problem
and responsibility lies with MICROSOFT and DUTY OF CARE.
Whiile I am not a computer guru I think the problem resides with control
of access to certain aspects of windows.

When panda was unable to install I also lost wireless internet connection
to my NETGEAR WIRELESS ROUTER. However, when I did a restore prior to panda
installation and removed panda from registry using regedit my wireless internet
connection was restored. When I told Netgear of problem before trying restore
they were at a loss even though I mentioned my problems with PANDA installtion.

Ever since getting rid of PANDA and 'fixing' wireless internet I am no longer
able to run paradox 7. "Bertil Isberg" <ctech (AT) corel (DOT) ca> wrote:

Can you post the exact error logged in the Vista event log (or error log)?

Serious question. What is there in P10 (or 11) that makes it that much

more desirable than 9? Stability? The new printing methodology? Why not

run 9 on Vista?

That might be the only solution left. I have never used P9 before (P7
and
P8) and it would certainly feel odd to "downgrade" from P10 but as you

say, it might be the only solution.

The task of installing p9 instead/parallel with P10 for all my clients

isn't something I'm looking forward to. What should I tell my clients?

"You know Vista is here, we need to run an older version of Paradox!"
If I
were the client it would make me very worried about the future of the

app...

I also need to change my printing code which is a minor task but still

some work to be done. Luckily I'm not using string lists....

For the time being I'm sticking my head into the sand and hoping for
someone to discover a solution....
