Default Using Paradox to query SQL Server 2000 db's - 05-27-2006 , 07:28 PM

Hello..

I have several SQL server 2000 databases and would like to use Paradox
to do queries from the db. Can this be done? If so how, also, I think
the installation of Microsoft .NET 2.0 screwed up all my pdox databases
as well.

thanks in advance

Just set up an ODBC connection to the SQL Server and query away.

I can't imagine how .NET could "screw up" your Paradox databases.
Could you be more specific about what you mean exactly?

thanks for your quick response.....in terms of screwing up....

I can not open the databases in Paradox anymore. There is a .NET error
message, however since I am out of town, I don't remember exactly what
the message was. I do know that Windows XP downloaded an update, and
the day after the update, I was no longer able to open the pdox
databases

You'll have to give us exact details of where the .DBs are, how you're
trying to open them (double clicking, file > open > table, in a
form...), full text of the error message, etc.

thank.....in terms of opening, it's like i normally open, perhaps
double clicking....I've used it enough to know that it's not opening
correctly.

When you say create a odbc.... should it be a file, or system dsn? DO
i pick or create a paradox or a sql server one. After that, do I just
go into Paradox, create a query or what.....that part is unclear to me.
thanks for your help

I have SQL Server 2005 Express, Visual Studio 2005 Express and .NET 2.0
installed on my computer and both Paradox 10 and Paradox 7 work without
problem. I also have SQL Server 2000 client software on the same
machine, accessing SQL Server2000 on a W2003 SBE server.

My BDE version is 5.2.2.

I doubt whether the .net 2.0 installation screwed your system. I would
look elsewhere.

In regards to DSN - Set up a user DSN to the database using SQL server
ODBC driver.

Also, Michael mentioned that SP2 broke the ability to open a remote SQL
table via File/Open/Table in Paradox. You have to go to P11 and a SP to
regain that functionality.

Well, I can't bring it up right now, but when it's back, go to
http://www.thedbcommunity.com/ and search for ODBC - you'll find
detailed steps for making an ODBC connection - the example is Access,
but the same principles work for SQL Server.

As for opening files, we'll need the full error message to help
further. I expect it's as simple as deleting the PARADOX.LCK,
PDOXUSRS.LCK and PDOXUSRS.NET files.

Or maybe .DB files are no longer associated with Paradox, in which
case a "repair" install should fix it.
