Default Is there a grammar for Paradox for DOS PAL? - 01-23-2006 , 07:11 PM

Does there exist a formal grammar (e.g. Yacc, Bison) covering the PAL
language as implemented in Paradox for DOS?

Not that I've every heard of. You trying to build a parser? :-)

Mike,

I can't recall ever seeing one for PAL. I glanced through all the PAL books
here, and found nothing.

You might check any PAL parsers you have, in case they might help. However,
all the ones here do not include the Source code of the analysers. I think
Harry Goldman released some (referred to as the GOLD utils) and perhaps
there's code there to analyse PAL. You might get lucky!!

Best regards,
- Mike

What about ParaTrak? I know that will document and analyze, not sure
about formal grammar.

I was thinking maybe the TurboPAL guy might have some insight.

This company makes a lot of Paradox add-ons for DOS and Windows
versions. (They make ParaTrak). Perhaps this will be helpful.

Very good idea, Larry.

....except... its been a very long time since the TurboPAL "sagas" <g>...

....and I'm sure the source code was never released... so Mike would need to
track down the programmer(s)...

I've even forgotten the name of the chap who built TurboPAL; Ted Rosenberger
(sp??) marketed it.

Michelle,

AFAIK, Luke never distributed the "source" code of the PARA... packages.

But he might have info on the formal PAL syntax/definitions - so contacting
him might be an excellent suggestion for Mike.
