Default Right Mouse Click in Windows Explorer - 07-23-2006 , 03:33 AM

Hi all,

This has been bugging me for sometime and so I thought I'd try and find out
how to fix it.

Paradox For Windows Version 7.
Compatibility Mode set to Windows NT 4 (Service Pack 5).
Windowx XP Service Pack 2.

The problem is that in Windows Explorer when I right mouse click on a QBE
file for example, The menu that appears has 5 blank entries between the Open
and Open With menu items. Now by choosing each one I can guess that the
entries are as follows:

Open and Run Query
Open Query
Copy Query
Rename Query
Delete Query

My question is what do I have to do in the registry to make the text appear
in the actual menu.
Thanks
Leslie.

Leslie

Which patch level of Paradox 7? Or which date of the pdxwin32.exe file?

I'm also interested in a solution to this problem. I don't have it but I've
seen it on other installations of Paradox 7.

Hi Bertil,

On this machine in front of me, the version info for pdxwin32.exe is
7.0.5.57 date 9/5/1996 - I think thats unpatched. However, from memory it
also applies to the version which has the SP applied as well. In other
words, I do not think it was fixed by any SP because it has only surfaced as
far as I know on Windows XP which is post service packs.

Leslie.

Leslie

A pdxwin32.exe dated May 1996 is SP3 or SP4. Original Paradox 7 was
released Dec 1995.

Can you also check the date of the files pxwshell.dll and pxwres09.dll
in the Paradox folder?

Hi Bertil,

Both have the same version and date as the .exe

I'm only aware of one solution, and that is to install a later version
of Paradox.

I don't have a PC with only P7 installed. This makes it very hard to
analyze the problem.

Leslie,

P7 32 was shipped with BDE 3.0.

This version is pretty much broken if using file names or paths that do
not comply to the 8.3 format. Why? MS incorporated FAT32 in later
releases of Win95...well after the release of P7 32. Another symptom,
is errors when running the experts. Try upgrading to at least BDE
version 3.5.

I'm running P7, no patches, but with BDE 3.5. The property menus look
normal on both Win98 and XP.

I think Bertil is correct. I have p7, p10 and p11 in various combinations
and Paradox 7 with all patches and the latest BDE on XP Pro SP2 seems to
only display the menu choices properly when a later version is also
installed. The functionality is actually there, it is the words that are
missing. (the third one down is edit, I think, double click it works as if
the words were there.
I've had some luck uninstalling the later version and having the P7 menus
survive. I don't actual remember how I did it but success depends on which
P is installed first.

I have seen the problem on XP machines running P7 with BDE 4.51, so IMO the
version of the BDE is not involved in this.

You're right Bertil. But then again, you're always right. I neglected
to consider that I have P9 installed as well, which is where the menus
point to.
