I would prefer if we communicated back and forth w/o the newsgroup. I tried
to respond to your e-mail but you have a block on it and the e-mail bounced
back.

Hello Again Robert,

After reading some of the replies I am dumbfounded. I don't know what
they
are talking about.

UseYN Artist Title Label No Genre Year

These are the headers for my CD table. I put
a + in the UseYN column on each entry I wanted
to save to a new table. I re-sorted the table and all the + signs
disappeared. I don't think this was what you were trying to explain to
me.
I
feel so frustrated. It made sense to me to make
a new column but now I feel so frustrated and
dumb that it would not work for me.

Thank you for your patience,
Emmy

Thank you for the information. When I feel confident enough I will
attempt
your suggestions.

You are welcome, please be careful if you delete.

If you create an extra field to flag and tag, you can be more confident
you
wont undo some of the work you did already.

I am assuming you have some kind of report made up, would that be
correct
?
Do you know what table it is based on ?
Do you know how to open a report based on a different table ?

I assume you could add a field, alreadyPrintedYN Alpha size 1.
Can you do a changeto N query on that field to set them all to N ?

Do you know how to view a table, then use zoom to find an item quickly
in
the table ?

What do you think of adding a field to your database called dateAdded.
And fill it in when you input new items.
Then you can query/filter/isolate/extract based on that field.

I have between 4,500 and 5,000 CDs (we won't mention the LPs and
45's).
It
took many months of dedicated work when I decided to enter the
information into Paradox. I have set up a new table entitled New-CD
to
list
recent purchases. I add this information maybe twice a year and do a
complete printout.

Wow - that is impressive. Dedicated work indeed.
Do you ever have an issue with inputting a duplicate ?

Are you doing digital music or just creating a library list of the disks
you
have ?

Emmy,

Communication via newsgroup benefits everyone - the person with the
question, those trying to find the answers, lurkers who only read and
those who will come by in a few months or even years and read what
went on. Keeping the conversations in threads and on the newsgroups
benefits all.

Unless your conversation truly needs to go private, please continue
your questions here.

Liz

PS: Some, as you've noticed, block direct email via spam traps; others
prefer not to receive unsolicited private email and either won't
respond or will respond by directing you to post to the groups (or
some in a less polite manner). It's generally considered polite to
ask someone (on the groups) if they'd be willing to receive a private
email prior to sending said private email. (Just an FYI on newsgroup
etiquette.)

Ok, you don't have to be so sarcastic ---- "find a chump". I haven't been a
newgroup person for long and don't know all the do's and don'ts.

If you want paid consulting outside the NG there is lots of that available

For the record,
I initiated direct email on this thread after about 3 or 4 suggestions and
responses.

I was trying to take a very step by step approach to help someone learn.
and thought it would be more productive to email directly.
So I deserve the heat for that.

If the email bounced, look at my email address that bounced, and see if it
and see if you can spot the word that doesnt belong there. I think the word
antispam might need to be removed.

Robert and Emmy,

No heat intended and no offense taken by anyone, I'm sure. It's just that
Emmy is new to the groups (it seems anyway) so I wanted her to know that
generally it's better to post here rather than take it private - even
(perhaps especially) with beginner questions.

That said, if you want to take the conversation private, that's up to you,
just wanted you to consider continuing here for everyone's benefit.

Please, continue in whichever format you wish.

:-)

Thanks,

Liz

Emmy,

I didn't mean it sarcastically. People often ask for private help from NG
participants (usually directly rather than broadcast as you did it) that would
be offered in the groups for free but otherwise would (and should) cost training
dollars to buy. Lots of other stuff is also provided free at various web sites
as well. But there is a point where private training for free can only be
considered self defeating. Anyway, sorry you didn't like the choice of words.

As for guidelines, Lance has a nice set you can find at his techtricks.com web
site. Check them out. I think they are what you are asking for re: do's and
don'ts. And I hope you and Robert will continue on the group as I think it was
being done well and would be valuable there.
