My problem is that I've not seen any problems, so I'd like to
find out what, where, and why !

You need to check your facts, Leslie. Although it would be strange to arrange
things like that, there's no reason why you shouldn't, and I have seen it done

Mike.. we've all seen it done, and done successfully.. but thru reports on these
newsgroups, we've also seen *many* cases where it *doesn't* work.. and as is
usually the case with "collective wisdom", it's much safer to recommend that
people don't do it.. why push their luck, and increase their potential distress,
needlessly?

over time, I'd guess that the main patterns have been "sharing" violations and "file
not found" errors.. and frequently only "one way" re-producable.. it works from the
XP/2000 machines and not from the lesser machines and/or the other way around..

put the data on the newer machine, and usually the problems go way.. not really a
scientific answer.. just a "gut feeling" from what's gone thru here over the past few
months..

You need to check your facts, Leslie. Although it would be
strange to arrange things like that, there's no reason why you
shouldn't, and I have seen it done, in places where the sole NT
server was reserved for use as a Domain Server, for example.
WinME, OTOH, should be avoided, and not just for reasons of
problems with Paradox !
Hi Mike,

The facts are as follows:
Problems have been reported a number of times on the BDE newsgroup that when
a Win2K workstation accesses a Paradox Database on a Win9x
file server there are problems. The advice given by TeamB is to move the
database to the Win2K (or XP or NT) machine. This invariably solves the
problem. Its as simple as that. I do agree that there are not that many
problems reported with NT anymore, perhaps because its not used much now or
as I said it might depend upon the service pack.

So TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT. I personally don't care !!!!!!!!!
If it helps good, if not nothing lost.

Even if your experiences are different, it does not give you the right to
ignore experience of others, thats just plain arrogant. I have simply passed
on those experiences in the hope that Ike can solve his problem.
After all thats whats its about, not who is right (or should I say wrong).

Finally, I might point out that I use WinMe on many of my machines without
*any* problems, and yet you state that Me should be avoided.
Where did these facts come from ??? Are your facts any better than mine ?

Leslie.
