Default Print dialog causes Paradox to crash - 03-10-2006 , 03:52 AM

Hi,

I hope there's someone there who can help. I have had Paradox 10 (sp3)
working fine for several years. Then last week I installed Paradox 11 (Full
Wordperfect 11 Suite) and since then, whenever I open the print dialog box
to print, Paradox 10 crashes. The menu text disappears, the report etc.
window goes blank, the printer dialog box goes blank and the hourglass goes
for ever. And inspection in the Task Manager shows no activity (i/o reads)
from paradox at all.

I reinstalled Paradox 10 but that didn't fix the problem. So I completely
uninstalled all WP Office 10 and Wp Office 11 and reinstalled just WPO 10
and up to SP3.

The problem has not gone away.

It occurs regardless of the default printer but there doesn't seem to be a
problem printing from any other applications.

I'm using XP pro and dreading the thought that this might call for a full
reinstall of the C Drive ....

Does anyone have any suggestions please.

Liz

I meant to include: There isn't a problem printing from forms which print
via reportprintinfo. The problem is only present when the print dialog
opens.

Which build number of Paradox 11? I'm asking because WPO11 SP2 broke
printing in Paradox 11.

Summary:
After installing WPO 11 SP2, Paradox 11 build 300, cannot print.

Details:
Paradox 11 has suddenly lost its ability to print. When I try to print a
form or a table, I get an "Unexpected General Protection Violation"
error message. Clicking on the "help" button on the error message brings
up the message, "There is no additional information available on this
message."

Other programs print without problem, including WP12 and Outlook.

I also had the same type of problem with my Paradox 11 after installing
Service Pack 2 for WP Office 11. The problem I experienced was that
Paradox would just close down when I tried to print. The only thing
that fixed it was when I did a clean uninstall of WP Office 11 and
reinstalled WITHOUT reinstalling Service Pack2. I just installed
Service Pack 1.

If this isn't your problem, it could be the CTFMON issue with Win XP. On
my website, URL below, there's a document named Errors explained. In the
index, search for
PARADOX STOPS RESPONDING

ANd in that document look for CTFMON

Liz,

Quote:
whenever I open the print dialog box
Although I am not sure for P10, but the print dialog box resides in COM objects.
Look for 'pfreg.exe' in the installationdir\programs.
Open it and you should see some files appear that can be registered and unregistered:
pfit... .dll
pfpi... .pfc

Make sure paradox is closed.
Select all the files and hit unregister and then register.

(If that doesn't work, try to grab them from P9 and see if they are compatible
with P10)

I hope this would do the job

Liz,

One other way to cause a GPV while printing (in v9, not sure about v11) is
to have a printer with '[Copy 2]' or so in the name. The print system chokes
on the brackets. Just rename the printer, and you should be fine. Note
that this happens if ANY printer, not just the default, has the brackets.

Thanks,
Jim Moseley
