Is there a year 0? Practically, a year 0 can't exist.

Yup. There is no year zero in the Christian calendar. That's why 2001 was
the first day of the new millennium. The year 2000 was two thousand years
after 1 BC. Throw in the 13 day correction when Europe switched from the
Julian to the Gregorian calendar, and 1 Jan 2000 was the anniversary of
precisely zip.

Stephen Jay Gould wrote several neat articles on the subject.

Since Paradox starts with 1 Jan 1 AD, I wonder how it handles the 13 day
correction, which occurs at different times in different countries?

Depends whether you count from 0 to 9, or from 1 to 10.

Chinese babies are 1 from the day they are born (i.e., in their first year).
Western babies are 0 years old until they have passed 365.25 days.

Zero is a mathematical term. In real terms, it means nothing. If I have
zero money, I'm in trouble. There cannot be zero elapsed time between 2
synchronous events, or a zero year.

Western babies are 1/(365.25 * 24 * 60) years old when they are born,
assuming it takes at least a minute to be born. I may have to redo that
formula, it's off the top of my head. In Western society, birthdays are
anniversaries of birth; when a child reaches its first anniversary of
birth (its first birthday) it is 1 years old. Prior to that, it is ...
some fraction of a year old. Unless you count gestation time, which varies.

Zero is for baby clothes sizes. But I still can't understand how a size
00 can be bigger than a size 000. A size 0 must be for a gorilla.
