All of my problem working files are in a subdirectory five levels down. After
reading today's comments, I created a new subdirectory four levels higher
and moved all of the working files into it.

The changeto query now works fine and I can save it.

I was adding records from one file to another using file\utilities\add after
sometimes increasing field widths to accommodate the added records.

Thanks everyone for your prompt help. I'll be using shorter names going forward.

Then it's probably a too long path to private directory

Can you open the queries in design mode from Paradox?

He gets that error when he tries to save the query, so doesn't have a
.qbe
to open and paste here.

Note that Bertil's message was about the PRIVATE (":PRIV:") directory path.

My private dir. is in c:\program files\corel\shared\
Does Pdox9 have a limit on how many directory levels it can work with from
the directory level holding the queried file to the private directory level?

Don

The limit is not on number of levels but rather the lenght of the full path
to the tables including the tablename. When it gets close to 80, it's time
to shorten the path.
