Default Parardox on old pc vs new pc - 04-06-2006 , 04:58 AM

Help!

My old pc specs are:
Pentium 2
MS Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
65,072 KB RAM

Virtual memory
Total paging for all drives: 512 MB
Drive c space available: 3565 MB
------------------------------------
My new pc specs are
Pentium 4
MS Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
1,030,888 KB RAM

Virtual memory
Total paging for all drives: 2047 MB
Drive c space available: 11442 MB

Now given all this I am unable to run a query on the new pc that works
perfectly on the old pc (same size database). I get an insufficient memory
for this operation error. Everything points to the new pc being far more
superior in all departments yet it cannot run a simple query. Can anyone
help fix this problem?

Thanks

most likely, that's the BDE "4 gig" error.. Goole the subject, and you'll
get much information, and several possible solutions, depending on your
platform and abilities..

Which version of Paradox are you using?

And what's the exact error-message?

Generally speaking ... the problem is that it was always "inconcievable"
that the amount of memory available in the computer would ever exceed the
limits of a 32-bit signed integer quantity (+/- 4,128,235,411,514).

(Why do i remember that by heart?) :-/

Now that both memory /and/ disk-sizes routinely exceed the limits of a
32-bit quantity, a lot of the mathematics in a lot of old software is prone
to problems of this type.
