Default Paradox 9 vs. Oracle 10g - 07-03-2007 , 09:29 AM

I am having trouble connecting from Paradox 9 to Oracle 10g via ODBC.
I am using Meriant 3.6 ODBC Driver. I get a message "...incorrect
parameter...". Has anyone connected from Paradox 9 to Oracle 10g?
What driver are you using? It looks like Paradox 9 can't see the
Oracle provided ODBC driver.

I use the MS ODBC for Oracle drivers to connect Paradox to Oracle all the
time.

Also, have you confirmed that you can connect from SQL*Plus and have you
confirmed that you can connect from some other ODBC-aware client?

Hi!

I had try, with success, to use SQL-link, for connect Paradox (7, 9 10 or
11) to Oracle.
SQL-link is faster than ODBC.

I will look at this as an option.

I found a few limitations with BDE SQL Links for Oracle against Oracle 9+
databases, mostly using newer data types and pipelined table functions, and
IIRC, the calling of stored procedures in anonymous PL/SQL blocks. Just
FYI.

If I had to guess, I'd say you either had multiple Oracle homes on your
machine or an incomplete install of the Oracle client.

I had problems with Paradox and Oracle 8 and later using SQL links. When
doing a pass-through query to some views, the data would come back garbled.
Also the version of SQLORA8.DLL in some of the later 5.x version of BDE also
have problems with Oracle 8 and later. If you use SQL links I think you'll
need to do some thorough testing. I haven't experienced any of these
problems with the Oracle supplied ODBC driver.

Just my 2 cents

I'd say you've been lucky! SQL Links has been deprecated for
years, and will never be updated. I wouldn't recommend it as
a long-term solution.
