Default Paradox 8 and 64 bit - 04-04-2006 , 03:21 AM

Hi All,

I have a client who has purchased new hardware. The machine is 64 bit
with WinXP 64 bit OS. The problem is that the Application Installer
created using the PDE will not install to 64 bit.

His hardware guru has installed XP 32 bit as a Virtual Machine and has
installed the application successfully on the same hardware. As the
installation site is a fair distance from me I was not present at the
time and know no other details.

My questions are:
Is it possible to make Paradox Version 8 run on 64 bit hardware running
a 64 bit OS?

Is the installation problem associated with the installer only or will
the same problem arise with Paradox Runtime also?

If Paradox Runtime Version 8 will run on a 64 bit setup, what would be
a viable installation method for runtime and the application?

Any and all help would be most appreciated.

John

we do not know the answer to this.. you are the first person to attempt
this, and report the results on the newsgroups..

I did extensive testing with WinXP-64 and Pdox 10 in Jun 2005- it
didn't work- Especially when trying to print! There's a big thread on
this in on pnews.thedbcommunity.com, but apparently there are problems
there right now. I found it in the google cache at
http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:...d=2&lr=lang_en

I ended putting 32bit back on because Pdox was mission critical at that
time.

If Pdox 10 doesn't work, I seriously doubt Pdox 8 will. Running it in a
32 bit VM is a viable alternative, and since VMWare player is free, the
Pdox runtime virtual machines can be cloned for only the cost of the MS
license. This takes about 3 minutes depending on the size of the VM.

Training users to understand they have TWO computers inside their
computer (?!?!) is another matter. (You mean I have to boot my
computer, login, then boot it again and login- I don't get it...) In
our experience if you make the desktops look completely different it's
easier on them.
