Default old Paradox-DB - 03-06-2007 , 02:38 PM

Hello NG,

I have a problem with an old database I got from a friend. It is the
Paradox Format.
I don't know the exact Version. Maybe someone can tell me how to read
this out
with a hex-viewer?
I need the values from these files. I tried to import them into
Access. It didn't work.
I got the message that it is a non expected format.
To read out the data I also could try to read the file with every byte
if a would know
the way Paradox stores for example Date-Values. The string-values or
no problem,
also the digit-values.
Can anyone tell me please how to get the values from the DB?

Thank you for your help!

greetz from germany...

you don't need to "import" to access.. File / Open the table, and Access
will ask for the installation CD, to install the Paradox drivers..

if this is a one-time issue, I'm sure one of the other German users will
offer to export the data for you..

Have you tried to read the files using Excel or QuattroPro?

The file may not even be a Paradox table.

Several other applications produce .db files and they are not compatible
with Paradox.

An simple example I'm sure everyone has seen... Thumb.db This is a
table produced by XP when you select to view a directory via Thumb view.

If you are sure that it is actually a Paradox table... then if you can not
open it using Paradox or Import it into Access via Microsoft's Paradox
driver, then the table is most likely corrupt or missing some needed
auxiliary files. But first, I'd establish that is in fact a Paradox table.

Thanks for the answers.
I gave the file a friend and he imported this *.db in his Access. He
uses the Office-XP Version from 2002.
I don't know why the Office 2000 Premium can't import the file, maybe
there are not all drivers included.

Again, thanks and have a nice day...
