Default A new Paradox symptom - 09-10-2007 , 03:25 PM

My Paradox system has recently developed a new behavior, which I want
to ask about.

After starting Paradox, the first time I open a form in the Design
mode or switch one to the Design mode, I get an error message window
that says "An attempt was made to access an unnamed file past its
end". When I clear that window, I get a second one saying the same
thing. After that, everything seems to work normally.

This happens in several databases, so it appears not to be anything
within my database causing this.

I'm not aware of having made any changes to the Paradox system.

This is Paradox 9.00.441 running on Windows 2000, which has all of its
updates as far as I know. At least Microsoft isn't telling me that I
need to download any changes currently.

Any ideas on what's going on here?

Bill

I believe that is the Toolbar file issue.

pdx_*.cfg files

At least 2.

Search and delete them. Paradox will recreate next time you start.

You may have to enable 'Show system and Hidden files' before your
Explorer will find all copies.

I have that setting selected always.

I have searched "Documents and Settings", "Program Files", and Paradox
databases and their subdirectories for "pdx_*.cfg". I found none.

Am I looking in the wrong places?

Look *EveryWhere*.

Particularly in riv:, I think, as well as under 'program files'.

Not sure where all they are hidden.
I wouldn't limit the search, to be honest.

Bill

C:\Documents and Settings\scbcbis\Application Data\Corel\Paradox90\ConfigDir

Replace scbcbis with your login name.
Replace Paradox90 with your version of Paradox

It helps when I enter the search criteria correctly. I found them in
Program Files\Corel\Programs\Config. Deleting them appears to have
solved the problem. Thanks for the help.

If you're suggesting that I look there for the config files, my reply
to Tony today tells where I found them.

C:\Documents and Settings\"MyAccount"\Application Data\Corel has only
CorelCentral under it.

But I appreciate all suggestions. Thanks.

Bill

I noticed you're using Paradox 9 SP1. The location of the files have changed
since that version.

BTW, you should try to get hold of P9 SP3.

I thought that's what I had. I vaguely recall that there was a fourth
service pack, but it was available only on CD. But I agree that my
installed version number indicates only SP1.

I see that I have download modules wp9sp3.exe, wp9sp3.w02, wp9sp3.w03,
and wp9sp3.w04. That appears to be SP3. Recently, I had to reinstall
the WP package because WordPerfect was acting up. Apparently, I
forgot to reinstall SP3 afterward. Or could I have just installed SP3
and avoided reinstalling SP1?

Thanks for pointing out the version level.

Bill

Hot Dog! Now I have 9.0.738. That sounds better, doesn't it?

Thanks again,
Bill
