I'm an old reader of this newsgroup and seem to recall problems with this
installation. Any tricks I should know about?

for the installation, point the Windows Temp folder to something under 2
gig.. a flash/usb drive or a burnable CD will work fine, a floppy won't..
for on-going use, set Compatibility Mode to NT4..

General observations not related to your version.

I have in the past had to reduce screen resolution to 800 x 600 for an
install because of driver incompatability problems (raised successfully
after the install).

Also stick with the default install path, have found unable to uninstall
with the utiity from a different path on occasion.

P7 ships with BDE 3.0.

You will need BDE 3.5 or later which supports FAT32.
