Default Help with Paradox Re-installation ... - 08-13-2006 , 12:38 PM

Re-installation of WordPerfect Office 2002 OEM Professional on my new HP
pavilion a1540n running Windows XP Media Edition after a system recovery
re-installation gave me Paradox without Tutorial/Help System/Experts
functionality and no ability to import/export files to and from Paradox.
First installation worked with full functionality, but nothing I've tried
seems to get me back there.

HELLLLLPPPPPPPP!

Someone will probably check in with a known solution, but in the meantime...

Did you install as Administrator (not just user with administrative rights)?

Check out Bertil's Buglist for more possibilities:

Yes, I had it installed just fine and then had hardware/software problems
unrelated to Paradox, so I did a "PC System Recovery" from my hard drive to
re-install Windows XP plus factory-installed applications. When I tried
re-installing Paradox, it appeared to go fine but I can't seem to do
anything that involves a dialog interaction, like import/export, printing
reports after running them or getting any help ... I know the help system is
installed, but nothing happens when I press F1 or ask for help from the
menu, even though I can find and load the help files from "My Computer".

Confusing and frustrating .... why does Corel just seem to leave these kind
of bugs lying around and not do anything to SOLVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

David

Run Regedit and check if there is information under
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\COREL\Paradox\10.0\Expe rts]

Compare to what is found under
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\COREL\Paradox\10.0\Exp erts]

If you have more under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, export the key shown and
change HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to HKEY_CURRENT_USER in the .reg file then run it.

Regarding HELP

This is what I have in Registry

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\HELP ]
"cdrhlp100.dll"="C:\\Program Files\\Corel\\WPO2002\\Programs"
"UAPX10EN.HLP"="C:\\Program Files\\Corel\\WPO2002\\Shared\\Help"
"PXEXPER10.HLP"="C:\\Program Files\\Corel\\WPO2002\\Shared\\Help"
"PDXTUT10.HLP"="C:\\Program Files\\Corel\\WPO2002\\Shared\\Help"
"PDXINET.HLP"="C:\\Program Files\\Corel\\WPO2002\\Shared\\Help"
"PDOXRUN10.HLP"="C:\\Program Files\\Corel\\WPO2002\\Shared\\Help"
"PDOXDEV10.HLP"="C:\\Program Files\\Corel\\WPO2002\\Shared\\Help"
"PDOX10EN.HLP"="C:\\Program Files\\Corel\\WPO2002\\Shared\\Help"
"Pd10vren.hlp"="C:\\Program Files\\Corel\\WPO2002\\Shared\\Help"
"PALTUT10.HLP"="C:\\Program Files\\Corel\\WPO2002\\Shared\\Help"
"OPAL10.HLP"="C:\\Program Files\\Corel\\WPO2002\\Shared\\Help"
"CWS.HLP"="C:\\Program Files\\Corel\\WPO2002\\Shared\\Help"

If you have it on your machine too, I guess there's something else
involved, e g the way you launch Paradox.

Note, I have changed the default location where WP Office 2002 is
installed. I have shortened the name of the folder to WPO2002.

Thanks, Bertil ... I will check this out and let you know. Trouble is, I
have discovered that I can't print out reports now either, the open in edit
and run fine, but I get GPV when I try to print them .... same thing happens
when I hit print button from info-structure or something like that or try do
a print of report (w/o loading, etc.) from the Project Viewer.

All these problems have arisen since my attempt to re-install ... worked
fine after my first installation to this machine ... can't apply any patches
to re-installed program either ... they either say ... "already patched ...
quitting" or "you need prior sp before using this patch ... quitting" ... as
though their are still files on my hard drive after I remove it! That's
what is so confusing/frustrating!!!! I need this program in just about
everything I do!

Anyway, I'll check my registry and get back to you.

Thanks

This could be the known ctfmon problem. You can find some information on
this on my site, URL in my tagline. Look in the document Errors explained
and search the index for Unexpected: General Protection Violation.

After you have uninstalled the WPO2002, delete the folder from C:\Program
Files\Corel. You can also remove all references to version 10 from registry
Step through all subkeys to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Corel. With subkeys I
mean that there is a subkey for Paradox and one for AppMan and one for
PerfectFit and so on. And each of them can have a subkey 10 or 10.0

And do the same for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Corel

Thanks for the help Bertil ... the suggestions in:re Help/Experts didn't
help with the problem, but the register entries WERE blank. Turns out, for
some reason related to Windows XP network or security or who knows what, ALL
the files on my hard drive we set to read only! When I checked the drive to
see if there had been anything left behind after uninstall, I found almost
everything there ... that was what was causing all the problems! Took away
read-only setting, re-did uninstall, then re-install and voila!

I wish the uninstaller or the re-installer had complained about this in the
first place ... then I would have know what to do ... but thanks anyway for
your help. BTW, is there a link for your site IN ENGLISH!? I have visited
before, but can't make a lot out of the Swedish.

Look at the site. There's nothing but English. You have to think about
an old site run by the Swedish Paradox User Group.

Thanks Bertil ... I saved the link so I don't get confused by old web pages.
If I understand the Service Packs page correctly, I shouldn't install SP 4,
but could do the SP3, right? What about the Hot Patch 4? I always get
confused trying to figure out what to use and what to skip.

Thanks again

My experience of P10 SP4 is such that I don't recommend it.

Stay with SP3, and apply Hot Patch 4. I'm not sure it will have any effect
on Paradox itself, but it may have effect on printing.
