Good Morning, My Paradox ‘ALL DAY’ Users are getting GPVs all day - everyday. They tell me they are not doing anything in particular when the GPVs occur. We have had Paradox 9 for several years without GPVs. The Paradox App is loaded on Windows XP SP2 PCs. The database sits on a Window 2003 R2 SHARE Machine. Can someone tell me why this is occurring and how can I stop the GPVs? TIA Jeanette |

Jeanette Om my site, there a document Errors explained. There are two entries in the index for Unexpected general protection violation. Read them, on you'll notice you have to provide a lot more information to get any help with this. -- Bertil Isberg - CTECH Paradox buglist: online: http://hem.bredband.net/bertilisberg/ "Jeanette" <HarrisJR (AT) bwsc (DOT) org> skrev i meddelandet news:466d57ab$1 (AT) pnews (DOT) thedbcommunity.com... Thanks Bertil, First the GPV message is: Press 'OK', then save your documents and exit Paradox. If the problem persists: press 'Abort' to terminate Paradox. I looked at your Errors Explained for Unexpexted GPVs and I could not ID anything that my Users are telling me. The Users that have access to my Pdox 9 database are stored in a Group. Users are added and deleted when necessary. This is controlled by the Admin staff. I tried to put my database back in the same condition as when there were no GPVs. I have removed all of the programs that were created when I began to get GPVs BUT the Users are still getting GPVs everyday. I changed a message in a form that is several years old. Here's the new message. msgStop("MISSING DATA...","TELL DESIGN ENGINEER - There are some records with no Quantity AND/OR Neighborhood and/or Item Number and/or Fund Type is BLANK. FOR EACH RECORD, A VALUE MUST BE ENTERED FOR ALL FIELDS or DELETE the RECORD !") I did create a new table recently and I can't remember if I created it as Paradox 5 Windows or 7,8,9 version. I don't think mixing tables created with different versions would cause GPVs but I thought I'd mention it. Is there a way for me to see what version my tables are? I am suspect of the Hot Fixes that occur using the WSUS server but I have been assured that the Fixes are scrutinized to pass an OK UPDATE test before the update takes place. My Users are soooooo frustrated and I am as well because I can't help them. If you can solve this problem I will be a VERY HAPPY WOMAN !!!! If the GPVs are happening when the user mouses over the bottom of the status bar (when going to the Start bar, for example), I've had some luck preventing them by programmatically expanding the status bar to two lines, then dropping it back to one line when each application is started. It happens to fast for the user to notice and seems to dramatically reduce the GPVs. |

That message is certainly the one I get with the mouse over the start button. I think it was Paul Cronk came up with the status line fix I've been using, it doesn't just reduce the GPVs, it stops them completely.
