I have a spare full set of 4.5 manuals. Only one, the 4.5 upgrade guide has
ever been used.
What was the full doc set like? Lots of the software from that era
seems to have had both a smaller "Getting Started" tutorial and a
full-scale reference. For what I want, a copy of the Getting Started
basic manual would be quite enough...

a huge interactive reference, a huge PAL reference, plus a few other books.. all
the same as 4.0.. and a tiny "4.5 Upgrade Guide" that covered the new PAL stuff
in 4.5..

I still have an PDOXDOS application running on a 486DX75 16M ram. The
bummer is you can't get A/V software updates for machines with w95 and 20M memory so
you have to be careful when connecting to a network :/

yeah, but you can buy a screaming new XP machine to replace it, for $299..
Many ne machines have NO PS/2 mouse or keyboard Ports, COMn: does not
work under XP (if the machine even has one), The floppy is almost
extinct and XP can't use antique 5.25 ones
Besides, they would expect me to type faster to keep up :/

I have a number of P4 and Athelon XP machines running XPpro that run
fine except for the COMn: from (mostly) DOS limitation.

If it is still doing the Primary job, why replace it and polute the
land fill?

Is there any documentation (aka tutorials) available online? I've
figured out how to create tables and edit them and stuff but I'd like
to learn how to use multi-table queries and stuff like that (hey if I
wanted non-relational stuff I'd use dbase) Learning PAL to build more
complicated databases may be in the cards too, if there's any good
info...

Before anyone asks, I don't have any manuals and I'm using DOS Paradox
because it's the best solution for an old machine that I want to use to
keep track of my media library. I got Paradox for free when it was
being thrown out, so I can't complain...

Start searching for a book called Paradox Programmer's Guide: PAL by
Example , by Alan Zenreich and Jim Kocis. Might be some used copies around
somewhere. You'll be VERY happy you bought it. I'll sell you mine for
$10,000.00. :-)

every computer has a finite life span, just like any other piece of equipment.. sooner or
later, a 486 is gonna die.. better to replace it *before* the death, not after.. and better
to replace it with something modern, that some other human (other than you) can deal with..
same as the "hit by a bus" theory.. aren't too many people left that know how to deal with
486s, DOS 6.22, etc..

It has been "replaced" oficially, I just keep using the old one
because it *WORKS* :-)

I also do Netware 4.2(IPX), and have recently worked on Netware 3.2
systems. Call me obsolete
It is amazing how much "obsolete" stuff is in daily use out there (by
business). Super market cash registers that run Scanmaster DOS because
it runs well on a P2 class (paid for NCR 7452) machine. I am still
decomissioning 286 based registers that run 12 LANE markets.
True obsolete is when it finally SMOKES :/
Not when Intel or Billy G says it is.

Book + disk: Paradox 4.0 Programmers guide, PAL by Example, 1159 pages.
Authors Alan Zenreich and James Kocis, published by Borland Press.

..... and mines cheaper .... only $9999.00 <vbg>

(c. 1994) 1gig hard drive. Works great!
