Default Fixing relationships in Paradox - 09-20-2006 , 04:52 PM

Hi,

A client gave us Paradox data in dozens of folders and many of the references
seem to be broken - e.g., if you open a query, it says the table does not
exist.

What's the easiest way around this? Can I just dump all the files into a
single folder? Some of the files have the same name so this is not ideal.

Also, is there a way to view which tables/queries a query or report is referencing
if the "table does not exist"? Something along the query design view of Access
would be great.

We are using Paradox 7 and the data is in Paradox 5 format.

Thanks,

-Harry

Queries can be opened in any text editor - they are text files.

There may be aliases in the query files (ending in .qbe) as well as the
reports.

If aliases are set, they can be created in Paradox, or replaced the .qbe
file with a static path; FAR better to recreate them in Paradox. This
elimates having to redo them later; just change the alias.

For the reports, if you try to open one it will tell you the table doesn't
exist and ask if you want to select another table.

Once you get the report open, you can go into the Format | DataModel option.
Click on a table in the resulting view, and it will show you the table and
path to the table on the status line.

Not sure if the specifics are different in Paradox 7; there may be different
names to the various stages/steps.
