Bertil - I realize that and so I used C:\Program Files\Borland\Common Files\BDE It looks like Anne is using C:\ and I think that is her problem. Hopefully she'll check back and let us know. Thanks |

2. do not use UNC naming for the path on a local machine in the BDE Paradox driver config and in the shortcut -o path (Does not work, and tested several times). C:\Pdoxwin is fine on its own. I had \\Pandora\C:\Pdoxwin as an obvious self-reminder in the shortcut command line and repeated that as the .net dir path in the BDE Administrator. |
|
3. A full command line path to the alternative configuration file is essential, in my instance '-o pandora' or '-o pandora.cfg' did not work despite the file being in the bde directory along with idapi32.cfg |

Thanks to all for the help. It's nice to click and get a local version running straightaway. |

Hi, all, I have now got it going. My alternative config file is pandora.cfg and my machine is named Pandora. The necessary rules are: 1. .net dir in a top level pdox directory, _not_ in root 2. do not use UNC naming for the path on a local machine in the BDE Paradox driver config and in the shortcut -o path (Does not work, and tested several times). C:\Pdoxwin is fine on its own. I had \\Pandora\C:\Pdoxwin as an obvious self-reminder in the shortcut command line and repeated that as the .net dir path in the BDE Administrator. 3. A full command line path to the alternative configuration file is essential, in my instance '-o pandora' or '-o pandora.cfg' did not work despite the file being in the bde directory along with idapi32.cfg 3. The BDE editing and saving is somewhat convoluted. Ensure that the tree shows green arrows along the path to the native driver being edited (use Enter when .net dir path has been edited to ensure they appear) as only then does the 'Apply' button light up. Apply will save the edited changes, seemingly the 'Save As' option will not save any edits that have not been Applied. 4. Do not blindly accept the option to make the last edited configuration the default on exiting the BDE Administrator. I add 4 but don't think I was guilty there, but it is easy to do so when frustrated by apparent non-working of new scheme. This info applies to BDE Administrator 5.01 Thanks to all for the help. It's nice to click and get a local version running straightaway. can you tell us what was wrong in your initially reported specification? Was it c: root used for NET DIR? |

I just now reset the .net dir path to C:\ in the BDE Administrator and it went fine. |

It mystifies me that someone would ask for assistance, then ignore it. |

I just now reset the .net dir path to C:\ in the BDE Administrator and it went fine. Am I understanding correctly? Knowing that you MUST NOT use the root of C:, you did it anyway? 'went fine' is not true. You may have gotten away with it for now, but make sure you wear iron panties - cause it is going to jump up and bite you in the fanny. It mystifies me that someone would ask for assistance, then ignore it. --------------------------------------------------------- Tony McGuire |
