Hi, all,

I have now got it going. My alternative config file is pandora.cfg and my
machine is named Pandora. The necessary rules are:

1. .net dir in a top level pdox directory, _not_ in root
2. do not use UNC naming for the path on a local machine in the BDE Paradox
driver config and in the shortcut -o path (Does not work, and tested
several times). C:\Pdoxwin is fine on its own. I had \\Pandora\C:\Pdoxwin
as an obvious self-reminder in the shortcut command line and repeated that
as the .net dir path in the BDE Administrator.
3. A full command line path to the alternative configuration file is
essential, in my instance '-o pandora' or '-o pandora.cfg' did not work
despite the file being in the bde directory along with idapi32.cfg
3. The BDE editing and saving is somewhat convoluted. Ensure that the tree
shows green arrows along the path to the native driver being edited (use
Enter when .net dir path has been edited to ensure they appear) as only
then does the 'Apply' button light up. Apply will save the edited changes,
seemingly the 'Save As' option will not save any edits that have not been
Applied.
4. Do not blindly accept the option to make the last edited configuration
the default on exiting the BDE Administrator.

I add 4 but don't think I was guilty there, but it is easy to do so when
frustrated by apparent non-working of new scheme.

This info applies to BDE Administrator 5.01

Thanks to all for the help. It's nice to click and get a local version
running straightaway.

and I think that is her problem. Hopefully she'll check back and let
us know.

I think it is possible to use UNC naming but you need to make a share for
the local folder. If you are sharing C (bad idea) you can use it BUT you
must remove the colon after C.

I think that is expected.

If you don't specify a path, the "Run in" folder is probably used. Or the
folder where pdxwin32.exe is.

can you tell us what was wrong in your initially reported specification? Was
it c: root used for NET DIR?

Bertil, hello.

I just now reset the .net dir path to C:\ in the BDE Administrator and it
went fine. I didn't run multiple copies, I would have needed to change
the priv directory to do that.

I believe the root problem was the failure to save the edited data into
the existing alternative configuration file (pandora).

Rereading the bde help it is not that helpful. Specifically the 'colour
coded symbols' do not appear until after you have made an edit and then
hit 'Enter'. You then get a green arrow up and the 'Apply' icon lit up.
Nowhere is this procedure described.

Regards
Anne

Am I understanding correctly?

Knowing that you MUST NOT use the root of C:, you did it anyway?

'went fine' is not true. You may have gotten away with it for now, but make
sure you wear iron panties - cause it is going to jump up and bite you in
the fanny.

It mystifies me that someone would ask for assistance, then ignore it.

She was just re-testing at Bertil's request to confirm if netdir in c:\ was
the problem or if it was one of the other changes that caused the problem.
She had posted earlier
--------------------------------------------------------
1. .net dir in a top level pdox directory, _not_ in root

Thanks, Rick. I missed that, and this was why I asked if I understood
correctly.

Hi, Tony & Steven,

Bertil asked me a question (Thu, 15 Feb 2007 23:39:35 +0100
) that I needed to check. I changed the setting, verified that Pdox loaded
using the alternative config file and then changed it back immediately. I
again verified that it ran and that the .net file location was correct
using enumEngineInfo. The .net file in root was deleted.

No one gave any dire warning on what specifically might happen and why.
Tell me more. _Always_ willing to learn.

Regards
Anne
