Rob,

Paradox is both a database program as well as a database application
development tool. Your Paradox program is actually a custom Paradox
application, and noone is likely to be able to tell you what to do because
we don't have access to your custom program logic.

If you can, contact the original developer(s) of the application and ask
them what to do.

If you don't have access to the original developers, don't worry, happens
all the time. You will, however, need to hire or rent someone with the
necessary skills to get into your application and figure out how to make
this change.

Sorry for the vague question. Direct Access 5.0. My C rpompt says
PDOX35. I run a retail store and I have a code table that links every
item with a specific code. I have a receipt screen that I fill out
information ex/ name, payment type, code. etc. Wen a code is entered
the itemcomes up with amount and the sales tax subtotaled at the bottom
of the page. When a sale is finished F2 will then copy info and send
it to specific tables for record keeping. Receipt, Sales Cust info etc.
It will keep track of monthly totals and sales tax. Sales tax in NJ
just went up to 7%. My system is set at 6%. I need to find out how I
can make this very important change. I am sure I am not explaining my
program well enough. I will be happy to give any and all info thanks

yes, you're explaining well enough.. however, as Larry said, we don't have
access to your app.. we don't know the name of the table holding the tasx
info, and we don't know if you have access to the table, even if we can
identify it.. further, the tax info might be hard-coded.. we just don't
know..

but one other thing.. you said PdoxDOS 3.5.. this many years down the road,
a 3.5 app can be a disaster waiting to happen.. even more so, if it's
running under Windows.. PdoxDOS 4.0 came out in 1993.. it's the recommended
DOS version to use, for many, many reasons..

I run it from DOS not windows. I know this is very old, but the thing
is it does everything I need it to do. I am scared to death to change
and mess some things up. The person who created the program
specifically for this businesses previous owner actually passed away.
The previous owner of my shop has moved out of the area. I am really
in a pickle here. Thanks guys for replying.

you're in much worse shape than you think, if something bad happens..
support for that platform is almost non-existent.. you need to replace the
app, and you need to start moving on that *fast*..

The thing is that we are in the preocess of replacing the app and the
system. Everything would have been fine until then if tere was no
sales tax change. The thing is I am sure that it is so simple to make
the sales tax change. It just means finding where it is and simply
changing a 6 to a 7

it probably *is* that simple, if you know where to put it.. the best I can
offer is to look at the app, if you can zip it up..
