I installed a trial copy of Altova's new "Databaee Spy" product (the
continuing ODBC woes I encountered on the first hardware box I tried
that with are under a separate thread)
When I finally got connected, I was surprised to see that whereas I CAN
see all my stored procedures (stand alone stored procedures, I mean), I
DONT see any of my packages. Not the specifications and not the bodies.
I could load a stand alone stored procedure into a "Sql Editor" (Didnt
see anything called a "pl/sql Editor", could edit the code and even
found a way to save the edited code on the local file system; but poke
as a might, I couldnt find a way to compile the edited procedure so as
to save the revised version back in the database.
There is an "execute" button on the GUI, but they really do mean
Execute, not "compile".
Is the tool just plain not meant to be a code editor (After all the name
"Spy" sort of implies "look but dont touch"), or is the free trial
version cripple ware, or have I just not found the right little GUI
whatsis, or what?
If its a "spy", well, where are the sequences and synonyms and a whole
bunch of other database objects that dont show up on the "object explorer".
Has anyone else played around with the tool? Is it just not yet ready
for prime time or have I got a dud version , or has the cleverness of
the GUI interface fooled me good? |
