Hi,

Thanks you for the replies, John Hurley and Joel Garry. Much
appreciated.

John: Thanks for your idea. It worked. I recovered using sqlplus until
now, though
I used SAP tools for the backups. So, I restored the datafiles and
archive logs
from RMAN, logged into Sqlplus, issued a 'Recover until time..'
command,
opened using resetlogs, and all was fine. So, for now, no RMAN recovery
for me!

Joel Garry: Thanks for the info. I will look into the asktom link, and
the timestamp
SCN connection.

Thanks,
QZ

The association between timestamp and scn is in a table called
something like smon_scn_time. *The granularity is 5 minutes, I think.
You might consider figuring out which SCN to restore until, rather
than a time too close to where you want, and 10g has a function to get
it within 3 seconds. *Seehttp://asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:0::::P11_QUESTION_ID:9...

Some things are strange for historical reasons.
