OP didn't mention OAS anywhere, so it's far from certain this will
solve his problem.

He kind of implied it in the original post, but it's been too long
since I've been on OAS to be sure from that post. But later, when he
said the opmctl and apache suggestion didn't work, it became fairly
obvious. I always thought OAS was way too fragile for a production
product, I can believe even an experienced person might be befuddled
for a while, who knows what evil lurks in an ip changed server. I
know I've gotten bogus information from support, at the same time as a
holier-than-thou attitude.

Actually in his initial post he mentioned having problems accessing a server
called 'server1' which was "a Oracle 10g server which was set up in a fixed
IP Windows 2003 server", after changing its IP address.

Yes, but that was only yesterday.

OAS is voodoo, its complexity is breathtaking, but it has provided me with years of employment.
I am grateful.

And it is quite capable of supporting websites that receive a large number of hits and that are
in itselves quite complex. The script I mentioned does its work.

Gerard:

As far as I know you have noted 3 times that there is some script that
does something to perhaps fix some problem. No details on the name so
far ... where it is located ... any parameters or output.

Geez I think I remember you saying that nobody was helping here for a
while so glad you are finally jumping in with both boots on!

I'd have given the details if I'd known that even Google is too difficult for the public in this
newsgroup.

It's got the mysterious name of "chgiphost.sh", or "chgiphost.bat".

Who would this be helping? JR is probably a bit further with his suspicions of router problems.

Ok, just to clarify, and for the nice people:

Our IT consists of 2 oracle programmers (who double as DBAs but odn't
really know enough for it), one secretarial assistant and me. I have
150 PCs, 32 laptops, 24 servers, a backup system and the comms
equipment to manage. I spend a *lot* of time just trying to stop the
place from simply burning down. I never have the chance to dedicated
more than 1-2 hours to one single issue. It's August, which means most
outside help is on vacation.

So, when I have such a complicated problem, I need to "squeeze" time
from other tasks to solve it. Which is why my posts here show up at
such long intervals. I've managed to get some people on the phone for
help, but I won't have enough outside support before September to fix
this..

It's alive!

Let someone connect to one of the problem clients, to detect where the problem is.

Trust me, we need more programmers. And the assistant stops us from
being swamped in paperwork...

Decided to give up. In September, with vacations over, I'll get 3-4
outside techs and let them sort it out...
