How do you distinguish the good from the bad? There are some
rilllllly baaaaad freelancers out there. Some come up first in the
searches.

It's been buried under spam and more spam. CDO.tools and this
other CDO groep I gave up completely, and this one I scan
just every now and then.

Thanks to all those Jahallabad institutes that insist on
using technical fora for their job postings, where there
is a perfect alternative: cdo.marketplace.

And yes - that makes me grumpy.

I hear your smiley, but you can give MOS some credit for finding and
downloading patches, if nothing else, even if it is a bit clunky.
People asking for that on usenet make themselves targets for abuse.
Really, what excuse is there for getting patches or information about
patches anywhere but official channels? It's not like you have to
enter an SR.

If you use a proper usenet server & client software (both of which are
free), much of the spam is never even propogated by the server, & the
rest can be taken care of with a few killfile rules.

Unfortunately you still get to see some of the spam threads thanks to
the people who inexplicably feel the need to reply to them, which is
particularly annoying when they include the full text of the original
(yes Mark I'm looking at you...).

Send abuse reports by all means (I frequently do myself), but please,
please stop replying to spam on the group.

Preston.

Of course I disagree (except as to the full text quoting), and support
Mark on this. The pr0n and boots spam, of course responding is
useless, and no one responds to that, the posters know they are doing
wrong and hide. Job posting spam on the other hand, they may simply
need to be educated, and given as an example of what not to do so all
the other headhunters don't jump on the bandwagon. Heck, when they
post their twitter feed you can accuse them of being spammers for all
twitter to see and then block their responses. tgd&r - Throw grenade,
duck and run.
