Default Oracle10g - 03-12-2010 , 08:30 AM

Hello there,
Is there any free Oracle 10g database that will enable me to create
multiple databases, for testing purposes?
I tried 10g and it only comes with one database. Thank you, T

In Oracle one creates multiple schemas within a single database
instance. In MS SQL Server one creates multiple databases within a
single SQL Server instance.

This may be of some use: http://www.morganslibrary.org/reference/sqlserver.html

If you mean multiple instances, and you are using Express Edition, the
answer is no. You have to install it on multiple servers. Because XE is
a free product, you are allowed to use it as much as you like, within
the license restrictions (like only one instance on one server, even
with VMWare, and some memory- cpu and size restrictions)
If you're using 10G standard or Enterprise edition, the answer is: yes,
but those are not really free, and you can only use them on ONE server
by ONE person (that's the deal for using it free for testing etc, see
the OTN license agreement). You can install multiple instances with one
software installation, eg using DBCA (database creation assistant).

What MS Sqlserver calls a "database", Oracle calls a "schema".

You can create as many schemas as you want in 10g.

How about EE10g from technology network? It really is fully
functional and doesn't expire although ( obviously ) you need a
support contract to get maintenance for it.

Use dbca if you want more than one database ...

Try to grasp the idea that Oracle is not crafted by MicroSoft.

All you'll ever need is one database - you got one head, right?

We're not alone, and don't share the same head. If you don't know what
the OP wants to test, you can't know how many databases he needs.

Plus the "testing" part really is not allowed under the agreement.

Unless you use the software to test yourself ;-)
