Default OCM - 07-21-2012 , 02:21 PM

I have just applied July '12 PSU to a development DB and everything went
smoothly. However, the patch requires me to configure OCM response file
and give it as an argument to the opatch utility.
How many people here utilize OCM? I usually deconfigure it from my
databases, but this bundling with opatch makes it harder to do so. OCM
is, in my opinion, a "big brother" type software which will count my
licenses, which is not what my management wants. Is there anything that
would justify using OCM?

Been like that for 11.2 for a while ... so better get used to it.

I just create a new ocm response file each time and respond "n" to each prompt.

Is it painful and ugly to be forced into doing that each time? You got it ... guess we should each file a bug request maybe?

Trust me John, I know:

1 select action_time,action,comments
2 from dba_registry_history
3* order by action_time desc
SQL> /

ACTION_TIME ACTION COMMENTS
---------------------------- ---------- --------------------
17-JUL-12 09.12.09.226405 PM APPLY PSU 11.2.0.3.3
17-APR-12 02.28.21.404697 PM APPLY PSU 11.2.0.3.2
15-APR-12 03.49.25.220667 PM APPLY PSU 11.2.0.3.1
17-SEP-11 10.21.11.595816 AM APPLY Patchset 11.2.0.2.0

Elapsed: 00:00:00.03

Hopefully, the rumors of 11.2.0.4 in October are true.

Just reply NONE to all other questions after opatch gets your email ID.
I'ts listed as one of the valid replies and stops it in its tracks.

That's what opatch 11.2.0.3 was released for: to "force" us to use the freaking
thing.

Guess what? It ain't happenning.

When it sends the physical address of our network card to Oracle? In their
dreams, it'll ever be allowed in our site!

There is absolutely nothing that justifies its use and if Oracle in future
forces us to use it to get PSUs or other patches loaded, we have EVERY right to
sue them for breach of contract and attempted security break-in.

And before I get the usual crap hate replies: it's not MY imposition you morons,
it's our auditor's!!!! Go talk to them instead of attacking me!
For once: direct your "anger" at the right target!

My attitude is roughly the same. I routinely answer that I wish to stay
uninformed and ignorant. And yes, Oracle is pushing very hard.

You ain't just whistling dixie pixie!

Not exactly the most subtle choice of wording in these prompts and
responses ... c'est la vie ...

That is the exact phrasing: "do you wish to stay uninformed". Yes, I do
wish that. I'm a DBA equivalent of Larry the cable guy.
