IBM AS/400 + 1TeraByte a version of Oracle 11g database, all
information I can provide in this regard would be very useful to me.

Topics as:

Please provide more information about this project such as which DBMS
is running on the AS/400 as this is necessary to provide you with a
usable response.

Depends. Since some database engines can be accessed through
heterogenous services, it starts at 0. Actually moving the data
depends on hardware and network resources available, as well as
requirements for down time windows. Some things could take weeks or
months, for example, if some application requires substantial data
modifications and code changes.

Practice, practice practice.

That's a large subject, you need a requirements specification to
start.

Oracle has had it for decades, but there are many consequences. I
suggest you start by reading the Oracle 11.2 concepts manual, then see
the books by Tom Kyte to see things that you may need to relearn.
Then read the concepts manual again.

The more information you provide, the better advice you can get. To
start, 11g isn't a version of Oracle, 11.2.0.4 would be a version of
Oracle. There have been some discussions on forums.oracle.com, you
might point a google search there.

Slight digression: I've just ordered new book by Jonathan Lewis
"Oracle Core: Essential Internals for DBAs and Developers"

Delivery estimate: Dec. 1, 2011 - Dec. 3, 2011
1 "Oracle Core: Essential Internals for DBAs and Developers"
Lewis, Jonathan; Paperback; $32.57
In Stock
Sold by: Amazon.com LLC

I have to complain, Jonathan didn't advertise his book on this group. How
is a simple DBA like me going to find out about new books if the authors
don't advertise them?

That's how I found out about the book. However, the economy will recover
much more slowly if the producers don't advertise.

That's not out yet. There is 11.2.0.4.0 version on MOS, but it returns no
rows for either 32b or 64b version of Linux.

lol! Didn't mean to piss off anyone, I said "would be." See MOS
742060.1, 11.2.0.4 is like, 2013. My platform and yours both got
11.2.0.3 on the same day, but I'm not even on 11 yet (besides some
XE). I'm a dinosaur among dinosaurs, I guess.

Now, the CPU's on the other hand... yikes!

Thanks, interesting little note. How does one get in the distro list
of those? That would have been very useful about a year ago!

Join the club. I'm on 10.2.0.3 (heavily patched) on just about
everything except some 11gr2 XE and HS stuff.
Starting to test 11.2.0.3 on Aix, now that I (finally!) got a sandpit
system - only 4 years after I asked for one...

It'll be a cold day in heck when I install a CPU... Never been of any
use to me.
