Default Michigan OakTable Symposium less than a month away! - 08-21-2010 , 01:37 PM

The Michigan members of the Oaktable Network are presenting the
Michigan Oaktable Symposium on Sept. 16-17th, 2010 at the Four Points
Sheraton in Ann Arbor, MI.

The Oaktable Network is loose association of Oracle DBAs, consultants
and developers with some common traits. They speak regularly at
conferences around the world, are noted experts in Oracle
technologies, and are interested in a systematic and scientific
approach to solving problems. For more information about the Oaktable
Network, please see http://www.oaktable.net/.

The Michigan Oaktable Symposium is a two-day, three track conference
comprised of speakers on various subjects around the Oracle database.
All speakers are Oaktable members, and many of them are also Oracle
ACEs and ACE Directors. Confirmed speakers include:: Jonathan Lewis,
Cary Millsap, and Tanel Poder, amongst many others.

For more information about this upcoming event, including a complete
list of speakers and their abstracts, as well as pricing and
registration information, please see http://michigan.oaktable.net/

Not sure if there are enough people on cdos anymore to get much
response from this and theoretically at least probably marketplace is
a better spot but good luck on your event.

I would definitely have attended this year but am going to Open World
the next week and well ... just too much. Interesting decision your
group made to schedule your event the week before Open World.

I did remind all of my fellow NEOOUG officers present at our last
meeting that your groups event was coming up but did not hear yet of
anyone going up north.

Google still considers this group medium activity, though it only has
about 10% the activity of 5 years ago. I bet an interesting post
getting tweeted about could raise that quickly.

I notice there are people presenting at both, Cary Millsap, Alex
Gorbachev, Marco Gralike are all I checked briefly. Looks like it was
too much for some others who would be missed. I thought some of the
Euro presenters would go to both, being halfway there. But even one
is too much for me. Now I'm kind of sorry, having just found out I'll
be installing Oracle for a new implementation of an industry-specific
product which will be talked about at OW. I suspect the stuff Marco
posted about http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thre...sageID=4430887
would be appropriate for it, too. Dang it.

Why would they schedule the Oaktable event just days before Larry's
World? The SF Bay Area or Michigan? Kind of a no-brainer.

I was planning on going to the Oaktalbe Symposium, but my company
needed one more person to qualify for the free registration to Larry's
World so I drafted. No travel costs for me since I'm local.

Ann Arbor is pretty nice ... very nice actually. Some good times at
the sidewalk tables here ( http://www.brownjug-annarbor.com/ ).
Probably a better scheduling choice than Detroit since fighting
traffic and road construction thru and around the Motor City can get
tedious.

Nothing wrong with San Francisco either ... that's where I am headed
this year.

Maybe it had to do with getting some of the speakers into the US
before they head over to Open World? Scheduling things is always
subject to second guessing. My user group NEOOUG has a quarterly
meeting scheduled Friday Sept 24th.

I am sure that the Michigan event will be good probably very good. I
wish I was going. But for anyone going to OOW do you really want to
try to sell to management that you also should go to Michigan? These
days being missing offsite while not being on vacation and getting
paid for the better part of 2 weeks is probably pretty dicey for most
Oracle professionals.

So maybe the Michigan group accepted that they were probably going to
miss getting a shot at the 40 thousand ( 45 thousand ? who knows )
people who will be at OOW.
