Default load balancing on a multi-processorsysstem - 07-09-2003 , 10:03 AM

We use a Windows2000-System with 3 processor. Most busy is one of this three
processors. What can I do, to share the resources more symmetrical. Is this
only depending of the operating system or can i manipulate the behavior of
the system on the oracle-site?

depending on version and licensing you can set parallel option

parallel_max_servers derived from cpu_count
parallel_automatic_tuning <true,false
and you can even set the parallel exec at table level

keep in mind that you apps can handle that kind of parallelism otherwise
you may run the deadlock situations

Look up the notes on NT architecture on Metalink

A little bit more information ..... you can do a lot but we need more info.

What version oracle, what version Win 2K (server or pro), how much mem,

what have you done with the W2K res kit to alleviate the problem. What have
you done with Oracle to analyze the problem ?

Why is it busy ?

I am not so familiar with the W2K res kit; so give me a tip what are the
first step to evaluate the problem. What is the best way to look on the
performance parameters in teh oracle db. I found a lot of V$...-infos. But
which should I take first?

Just visit Metalink if that's not too much for you. IIRC the Oracle
Press book on Oracle and NT also has details.
