Default Compaq DL 380 And Smart Array - 07-09-2003 , 07:42 AM

Hi,

We have a very dynamic database here that grows 400Gb per year. At
present we have a Compaq DL 380 with 2 Smart Array 5300 controllers
(each with 2 channels). We need a better throughput on the Raids. We
have to stay with HP-Compaq products for corporate reasons.

I was thinking about buying two Smart Array 5304 controllers ( with 4
channels each).

What other product should we have a look on ?

I have a similar server (not running oracle), using two 5304
controllers connectined to 56 x 15k drives in raid 1+0. I can copy
from one card (26 disks attatched) to the other (26 disks also
atattched) at a breathtaking 80mb/s or about 6mb per spindle for
sustained writing...

What sort of throughput are you seeing with your setup? I wasn't very
impressed with mine...

Good luck with these shoddy products.

Cheers

Ralph.
