Default Is there any references or manuals of sql*loader? - 06-13-2007 , 02:51 AM

I am looking forward to some reference about how to write the control file
used by sql*loader. Is there any official or inofficial references of that?

The official reference for the control file syntax is in the Oracle
Server Utilities Manual up at http://tahiti.oracle.com

Jimmy,
Oracle does not provide manuals! If they did, they'd be very, very
expensive.

This is one of the reasons that only a small set of highly skilled
people are able to figure it out and work with the product and is only
secondarily responsible for the creation of the internet. How else
would be know how to use the product without forums and venues that
allow for learning w/o the help of manuals.

If you do find a manual, please let me know because I've never read an
Oracle manual and have figured out this stuff by trial and error as
you may nave noticed via my posts.

I've heard that there are also these new things called search
locomotives or engines that make finding things easier. I may have to
check these things out, since my old technique of clicking on each
page and putting it excel with a detailed description is now taking me
too much time.

This is an extreemly incorrect remark.
All manuals are online at http://tahiti.oracle.com and you can even
buy them from the Oracle Store. It will cost you a fortune and you
will ruin a big part of the South American Rain Forest, but it is
possible.

Please stop spreading such blatant nonsense.
*Everyone* can read those manuals. The problem is most posters here
are just *too lazy*.

The problem is that the oracle search is terrible.

http://tahiti.oracle.com/
Enter a word or phrase: sql*loader reference
Enter a word or phrase: sqlloader reference
Enter a word or phrase: sqlloader

Summary of Search Results: (the above)
Your search term did not match any of these documentation libraries:

If you don't have the exact correct search term then it finds nothing.
Enter a word or phrase: sqlldr
Enter a word or phrase: sql*loader those
both work.

On the other hand
GOOGLE: sql*loader reference
brings up lots of documents. Top item is not from oracle. First item
from oracle (number 6) is a discussion of arabic characters. First actual
Oracle doc is hosted at a university.

I am glad however to notice that download-east.oracle.com/docs now appears
on the list, as does www.oracle.com on occasion, which is much better than
in years previous when the only official oracle docs that ever appeared
were those hosted at universities - I used to wonder if that was a kind of
public service! Tahiti, the supposed document repository for oracle,
basically never turns up unless you ask for it.

No, that's not the problem.
The problem is people are too lazy to learn to find their way in the
documentation.
Once you know sql*loader and imp and exp are in the Utilities Manual
you don't need to execute searches like you specify.
Once you know there is a master index and a master glossary, you start
to use those.
If you have a question about RMAN, don't specify RMAN in the search
window, go to the home page for your version and click the list of
books etc.

Please don't state the oracle search is terrible. It is simply NOT
true.
The search is terrible for the lazy ones. I agree William H Gates III
has poisoned everyone and made everyone lazy.
Using the products of William H Gates III, you don't have to search,
because it's simply not there, or in Mickeysoft Winblows 3000.
