9g is not an Oracle version number. I presume you meant 9i but even
that is not a version number it is a marketing label. Version numbers
contain three decimal places.

What is the version number of the client?

Woop! I mean Oracle 9i version (9.2.0.4) on machine(B). Do I need to
install Oracle client (11.1.0) on machine(A)? Does an oracle DB
include Oracle client?

Thanks,
B

Oracle Server does include a client.

Version 11.1 should be able to connect to 9.2 just fine.

So you shouldn't need to install any additional software.
