I just bought an airplane. I have the key, but I have never flown an
airplane before. In fact, I can barely spell airplane. Can someone show me
what buttons to push to make it fly?

You read the Getting started Manual.

With all respect due ...

since SQL is nothing other than a language that happens to be
'interpreted' by the Oracle RDBMS, I'm not sure exactly are you
attempting to do?

My suspicion is that you are trying to start up a program, perhaps SQL
Plus, to access an Oracle database. However, since there are several
(dozen?) Oracle-supplied utilities, and many more non-Oracle ones, that
include the term SQL, I am just guessing.

While you are at it, providing the operating system and the version of
Oracle database would be quite useful for those of us attempting to help.

If you have black window infront of you and you see something like
"Enter user-name" , type
/ as sysdba
(no quotes, nothing - and press ENTER
Now you should see
Connected.

If you have pretty GUI window infront of you and it is asking for password
, try sa and empty password (and remember at this point - you are NOT running
Oracle. All your posts start with microsoft)

:-)))
