Default error in writing to directory - 09-06-2005 , 12:00 PM

Hi,

i've got a problem when i try to install oracle under windows server 2003.
when i launch oracle universal installer i've got a message : 'error in
writing to directory c:\..... please ensure that this directory is writable
and has atleast 32 MB of disk space.'
my disk has enough space and i'm under an administrator user. i've tried
under the Administrator but it is the same problem.

Any idea ?
thanks

You could get a real operating system. I'd suggest RedHat Linux.

Alternatively ... you have a Windows permission problem, not an
Oracle problem. Install as local administrator on the machine being
careful to follow the installation instructions at
http://docs.oracle.com.

BTW: Oracle version is important. Too bad you didn't mention it.

Default Solution to problem - 03-20-2006 , 04:04 PM

I had the same problem on windows 2003 and here is the solution:
When you use the default unzipping program with windows it uses the temp directory to unzip the files. The problem is that it doesn't have enough room in the temp directory to unzip the entire database install. But it doesn't error out. So when you unzip the database, it looks like the entire install is there but it is not really. You need to unzip the database on another computer and burn it to a cd then copy the files to the hard drive. That way you get the entire database install. What that error message is saying is that it can't write to the temp folder because it has NO FILE to write to the temp folder. Not because there is something wrong with the folder, but that the files are missing in the install. The error message is very misleading.
