Basic Functions SQL DBA Administrator Characteristic Duties and
Responsibilities MAIN PURPOSE: This position is for a SQL DBA position
that will be involved in every aspect of technology initiatives
including support, planning, deploying, monitoring, maintaining and
troubleshooting of client and server systems, and a multitude of
applications. This position will work closely with other local and
global staff members, but will need to be able to function under
minimal supervision and with a good degree of responsibility. KEY
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: · Acts as technical contact and interface
for developers and DB issues · Maintain monthly DB maintenance
routines such as entire system backups, system restarts and code
deployment for development. · Deploy, maintain, and upgrade a variety
of desktop, laptop and server devices and applications. · Must be
able to effectively prioritize work assignments and give attention to
detail. · Provide input and participate on new technology projects
and roll outs. · Must have a flexible schedule and is subjected to
on-call 24 hours, 7 days a week to cover operation failure or project
deliverables. · Must have excellent communication skills, both
written and verbal. · Work with multiple vendor helpdesk in an effort
to resolve technical problems pertaining to DB, servers and
applications % of Time Activity 60 15 10 10 5 Support and
administration of DB environment, which Identify, research, resolve,
document, and track technical problems pertaining to infrastructure and
applications Provide Levels 1-3 helpdesk support for advanced internal
user issues and routine operational issues Administration of our
Desktop, Server and Network infrastructure, including backup and tape
management process. Proactively monitor systems and applications for
performance problems, security threats and operational failure. Provide
input and participate on new technology projects and roll outs.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: A degree in Computer Science
or Equivalent work experience At least 5 years of working experience
with Windows MS SQL 2000/2005 A working knowledge of the Microsoft
version of the SQL language and common system stored procedures.
Microsoft Certified Database Administrator
(http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/mcdba/) qualification (or part
thereof) would be a plus. Must be familiar with various DB replication
solutions, and must have implementation experience in at least one. At
least 7 years of experience with any of the following; MS Windows
NT/2000/XP/2003, or Citrix Must be familiar with both Dell and
HP/Compaq server hardware A general understanding of networking
concepts and applicable knowledge of protocols and technologies such as
TCP/IP, HTTP, FTP and VPN. A working understand of administrative
scripting/development languages (WSH, BAT, VB, VBS or Perl) Experience
with any of the following is preferred: Microsoft SMS or other software
deployment tools MOM 2005 or other monitoring tools Netapp Filers Sun
Solaris Qualifications 5 years experience working as a Lead SQL DBA
HANDS ON ROLE as a SQL DBA SQL language and common system stored
procedures Experience Summary Notes for technical review: As per the
customer: Technical knowledge we are looking for in a DBA.... ·
Should be able to clearly articulate the various SQL data types,
understand the difference between them and the impact on the underlying
storage. · Should understand table INDEXES, both primary key and
other clustered and non-clustered the implications for storage and
performance. · Should understand VIEWS, why they exist and how they
are configured. · Should be extremely proficient with the T-SQL
language · SELECT, WHERE, GROUP BY, HAVING, UNION and JOIN, INSERT,
DELETE and others... · Be familiar with the various system stored
procedures such as getdate(), sp_databases, sp_tables · Be familiar
with creating stored procedure and user defined functions · Should
know various means to protect data, different replication schemes in
SQL and the reasons for using them · Should know enough about storage
to talk about physical and logical disks, mirroring, RAID 5, SAN & NAS
technology · Should know enough about networking to talk about IP
addresses, common ports and subnet masks especially as they pertain to
SQL and the underlying TCP/IP transport layers. · Experience with
OLAP, SQL Reporting Services, Clustering, SQL 2005 are all nice to
have.
