Default web based reporting - 06-11-2006 , 07:01 AM

Hi everyone,

i need opinions - currently in my workplace we produce various reports in
XLS and email them to people working on the field. we're looking at
possibilities of changing that into an interactive web based reporting
solution. my question is what packages are you aware that offers such
possibilities?
so far i only know of using ASP; and i found this package in sourceforge
calles jasperreports. anyone tried that ?

Hi,

I believe MS SQL Server 2000 and above with Reporting Services will be
a good option available for you. If I have to choose for my work I will
look for following factors:

1. Kind of solution e.g. Reporting or BI
2. I should be able to utilize my existing report e.g. I can easily
import Excel data into my DB and produce reports from historical data
without dependency on other person.
3. On line Support of selected product
4. If I am able to do OLAP Reporting also
5. Risk assessment i.e. Keeping data away from unauthorized users
6. Comfort level of existing user for switching to new platform
7. Learning should be minimum with maximum output
8. Upgradation of Product
9. Cost and Type of Licenses

You have to make a matrix for all factors that are going to derive you
decision and tools available in Market.

Thanks and regards,
Harsh
