Impromptu Query Definition's (.IQD files) are simply text files which
contain a sql statement. You can open them in a text editor if you wish to
view the sql being sent. When you use an iqd file with a transformer model,
transformer sends the sql statement to the UDA layer (universal data access)
and then UDA retrieves the recordset for Transformer.

I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm a little confused as to why you would
expect an IQD to be updated, after all it is simply a query for Transformer
to pull from?

Hi all,

I have a Cognos model whose data source is an Impromptu query
definition. The problem I have with this approach is that when I build
the cube the Impromptu query definition is not automatically updated. I
have to manually open the Impromptu report and retrieve the data to
update it. Does anyone know how to automatically do this? I've tried
running a batch file every day that uses command line switches, but this
doesn't work well because I have no way of closing the Impromptu catalog
and report after I've opened them. I've also tried Cognos script to open
the report, but haven't been able to get this to work. Any ideas? Thanks
in advance.

Mike
